JAGUARS END FIRST FULL WEEKOF 1996 TRAINING CAMP

The Jacksonville Jaguars completed their first full week of training camp today with an afternoon practice in shoulder pads and helmets on the Ferrell Practice Fields.

The squad spent most of the session working on team drills rather than individual skills. ³We had different objectives today,² said Jaguars head coach Tom Coughlin. ³We wanted to catch up in the red area, the tight red (area) and on third down, and we introduced the four-minute offense. We also started some substitution drills to get people into that frame of mind. That¹ll be the case next Friday night (when the Jaguars host the New York Giants in their preseason opener).²

Wide receiver Curtis Marsh (hamstring) and linebacker Kevin Hardy (groin) practiced on a limited basis. Missing the practice were guard/offensive tackle Marcus Price (low back strain), offensive tackle Leon Searcy (aggravated hamstring strain) and rookie offensive tackle Jason Dukes (sprained left ankle).

³Injuries like those keep us from getting into a routine,² Coughlin said, ³but that¹s the way it goes.²

With the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame game having been played today, Coughlin reflected back on the last year since the Jaguars played their first game ever in Canton, Ohio. ³There¹s no question we¹re further advanced than we were a year ago,² he said. ³We¹ve had 14 practices and nine days in camp. I feel good about where we are. The real challenge is where we go from here.²

The Jaguars do not have any practices scheduled for Sunday. They will practice again at 8:40 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. Monday.
