Jacksonville Jaguars Head Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist Mike Ryan was selected for two awards for his work in 2007.
Ryan was selected by the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association as Professional Athletic Trainer of the Year. He was presented his award on March 1 in Franklin, Tenn. In addition, Ryan was named the 2007 Professional Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Athletic Trainers Association of Florida. The award recognizes all of the hard work and dedication to the Athletic Training profession in Florida and will be announced at the 20th Annual Clinical Symposium and Business Meeting on April 26 in Orlando.
Ryan has been the Jaguars' head athletic trainer since 1994, one of only 14 full-time staff members that have worked for the Jaguars since the inaugural season. Ryan spent six seasons (1988-1993) as an assistant with the New York Giants.
Ryan is President of the Professional Football Athletic Trainers' Society Research and Education Foundation and the author of numerous sports medicine articles. Ryan is a member of the National Football League Foot & Ankle Committee. He founded the Sports Medicine Leaders for Tomorrow Foundation in 2007 to support and mentor teenagers interested in careers in the sports medicine profession.
