JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars 25th season is officially underway, but a quarter-century ago the original architects of the team arrived in Jacksonville tasked with building a franchise from the ground up. Today the team launched "Perspectives," a weekly podcast presented by VyStar of first-person accounts from the early years, beginning with former Head Coach and current Executive Vice President of Football Operations Tom Coughlin. "Perspectives" is the newest addition to the Jaguars Podcast Network and is now available via iTunes, Spotify, Google Play and TuneIn.
"It's keeping your nose to the grindstone and trying to judge improvement rather than wins," said Coughlin in the first episode of the podcast when discussing the inaugural season. "I was very hard on them. We were a unified team…they were all unified because they hated me, but they played and even that first team might have been one of the toughest teams that I've ever been around."
"Perspectives" is hosted by Jaguars.com Senior Correspondent Brian Sexton, the first-ever "Voice of the Jaguars." Sexton became the youngest-ever NFL radio play-by-play announcer when he was hired in 1994 and is still one of only three people to have attended all 501 Jaguars game in history, both home and away, regular season and preseason.
"It took so much effort from so many people to build this franchise that it would be impossible to tell every story," said Sexton. "I wanted Perspectives to be centered around the stories that they wanted to tell, that come to mind when they thought of the early days on and off the field. I'm thrilled with what we got and am eager for Jaguars fans to hear from the people they know but to hear something deeper, more intimate than they have ever heard before. It was a deeply personal project for me and I'm excited to share it."
"Perspectives" will welcome a variety of guests during the 25th season, including alumni such as QB Mark Brunell, LT Tony Boselli, WR Keenan McCardell and RB Fred Taylor and other local executives including Jaguars President Mark Lamping and former Jacksonville Mayor John Delaney.
The Jaguars Podcast Network features a variety of news, entertainment and storytelling content for fans including Jags Drive Time, Jaguars Happy Hour, the Doug Marrone Show as well as player and coach audio from press conferences and interviews.
