JAGUARS LOSE DEVINE TO BROWNS IN EXPANSION DRAFT

Jaguars CB Kevin Devine was the only Jacksonville player selected

by the Cleveland Browns in today's expansion draft. The remaining

four Jaguars players who had been made eligible remain with the

team: CB Deon Figures (who was pulled back when Devine was

chosen), DT Jose White, LB James Hamilton and WR Will Moore.

Devine, 24, was one of only two undrafted rookies to make the 1997

roster. He played in 12 games as a rookie and five in '98. In two

seasons, he made one interception and nine tackles on defense and

15 tackles on special teams.

Jaguars DE Tony Brackens recently underwent arthroscopic

surgery on his left shoulder, performed by team physicians at

Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute. Brackens' shoulder had bothered

him for the latter half of the 1998 season, and after a trial of

rehabilitation it was decided to go forward with arthroscopic surgery

to correct the problem. Brackens has begun rehabilitation and is

expected to participate in the team's offseason conditioning program

that begins next month.

The Jaguars have signed G Andrew Greene to a contract. Length

and terms of the contract are undisclosed. Greene, 29, was signed

to the team's practice squad last December 16, where he spent the

remaining weeks of the season. He was a second-round draft

choice of the Miami Dolphins in 1995 and was waived during the

'96 training camp and by Seattle in the '97 camp. He played in four

games with the Seahawks in '98, before being waived on November

  1. The 6-4, 304-pound Greene was a three-year starter at the

University of Indiana and was named second-team All-Big Ten as a

senior. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in Ontario,

Canada.
