JAGUARS OPEN 1998 TRAINING CAMP

The Jacksonville Jaguars opened their fourth training camp today, and all 85 players were in attendance for an afternoon session on Ferrell Fields adjacent to ALLTEL Stadium.

"We were anxious to get started. This is where it happens. We're a good football team, but exactly how good we can be we'll find out," said Jaguars head coach Tom Coughlin. "We have a lot of people who are in positions where they can make or break our football team depending on the kind of year they have. The third and fourth-year players, it's their time. They have to step up and do it - that's what it's all about. And the older players, it's very important for them to have their best year for where we want to go."

Of the team's 24 rookies, Coughlin said, "They just have to hang in. The two-a-days will be the most difficult practices they've had. They'll have their ups and downs, but nothing can be accomplished unless they're on the field and playing consistent football. If they want to make this team, they have to make a favorable impression."

The Jaguars will practice at 8:40 a.m. and 3:20 on Saturday, with the first session in full pads and the afternoon practice in uppers. Sunday will be an off day for the players before returning on Monday for practices at 8:40 a.m. and 3:20 p.m.

Training camp is open to the public for viewing practice sessions through Monday, August 17, which will be the final day of two-a-day practice sessions. There is no admission charge for training camp. Parking will be available in the parking lots on the East side of the stadium. Fans may call the Jaguars Fans Training Camp Hotline for a recorded message which gives the daily practice schedule. The phone number is (904) 633-6525. The message will be updated daily.
