Jaguars place six on IR

The Jacksonville Jaguars today reduced their roster to the required 75 players by moving FB/RB Greg Jones, CB Chris Roberson, DT Tony Williams, OT Mike Williams, TE Brian Jones and DE Elton Patterson to the injured list.

Greg Jones started all three preseason games, rushing for 51 yards on 14 carries. The third-year veteran out of Florida State tore his ACL in his left knee in the Jaguars' game against Tampa Bay. Roberson played in all three games with eight tackles and one pass defensed. The second-year cornerback injured his shoulder in the Tampa Bay game.

Tony Williams saw action in the Jaguars' first two preseason games while collecting two tackles before leaving the Carolina game with an injured biceps. The ninth-year veteran had been re-signed by Jacksonville on January 31. Mike Williams did not see action in the preseason games. Williams was limited in training camp with a back injury after signing with Jacksonville on March 14.

Brian Jones did not seen action in the preseason games after injuring his knee in a training camp drill. He has played in 29 career games in his two seasons with the Jaguars. Patterson was re-signed on January 16 and was allocated to NFL Europe by the Jaguars in the spring. The third-year veteran played in the first two preseason games with two tackles and a tackle for a loss.

The deadline for final cuts to 53 is Saturday, Sept. 2. The Jaguars open the regular season against the Dallas Cowboys on September 10 at 4:15 p.m. at Alltel Stadium.
