The Jacksonville Jaguars today placed linebacker Erik Storz on injured reserve and activated wide reciever Emanuel Smith from the practice squad to the active roster. In addition, running back Jason Brookins was signed to the practice squad.
Storz broke his left thumb in the fourth quarter of the Nov. 26 game against Tennessee and has been inactive the past two games after undergoing surgery on the thumb. He played in eleven games with two starts and recorded 25 tackles (10 solo) and 10 special teams tackles, in addition to one forced fumble and a fumble recovery. In 1999 he played in seven games before ending the season on injured reserve with a torn ACL.
Smith, 24, has been on the practice squad since August 28. He was selected in the sixth round (196th overall) of the 2000 draft by the Jaguars. In the preseason, he had three catches for 25 yards and one touchdown. Smith is now the 10th of the Jaguars'11 selections of the 2000 draft to see time on the active roster (OT Joe Chustz was placed on I.R. in training camp).
Brookins return to the Jaguars' practice squad after being signed to the practice sqaud on November 9 and being waived on November 21. The 6-2, 225-pound Brookins is a rookie from Lane College who spent the preseason with the Baltimore Ravens and first two weeks of the season on Baltimore's practice squad and Week 6 on Oakland's practice squad. He is 24 years old.
Smith, who becomes the fourth Smith on the active roster, will wear jersey No. 89.
