The Jacksonville Jaguars today placed cornerback Dave Thomas on injured reserve and claimed Buck Brooks off waivers from the Green Bay Packers.
Thomas, 28, will be out for the remainder of the season. He suffered a broken left femur in Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals and underwent surgery yesterday. Thomas will remain in Cincinnati until Friday or Saturday and will begin a rehabilitation program in Jacksonville next week. It is anticipated that he will make a complete recovery for the 1997 season.
Brooks, 25, is a 6-0, 195-pound cornerback in his second year out of North Carolina. He played in three games for the Buffalo Bills in 1994 as a wide receiver, returning nine kickoffs for 162 yards. He was signed by Green Bay late last season and was inactive for the final two regular-season games and all three playoff contests. He has switched to cornerback this year during training camp.
A four-year letterman at North Carolina, Brooks caught 63 passes for 1,154 yards and 10 touchdowns during his collegiate career. He is a native of Raleigh, N.C.
The Jaguars; lockerroom will be open for the media on Wednesday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Head coach Tom Coughlin will have his press conference at 12:00 on both days.
