JAGUARS RE-SIGN McMANUS; DRAFT CHOICE WADE ALSO SIGNS

The Jacksonville Jaguars today re-signed middle linebacker Tom McManus, and fifth-round draft choice John Wade, who had agreed to terms with the team last month, also signed his contract. Length and terms of the contracts are not disclosed.

McManus was a restricted free agent who had been tendered a qualifying offer by the team in February and was subject to the right of first refusal if he had been signed by another team. McManus, 27, is in his fourth year with the Jaguars. He spent the entire 1997 season on injured reserve after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in a scrimmage against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last July 26. McManus has recovered from his injury. In 1996, he had replaced an injured Bryan Schwartz as the starting middle linebacker for the final 12 games of the season, finishing with 119 tackles.

Wade, a center from Marshall, is the ninth draft choice to have signed a contract, leaving only first-rounders Fred Taylor and Donovin Darius unsigned.
