The Jacksonville Jaguars re-signed linebacker Tony Gilbert to a contract today. The fifth-year veteran was set to become an unrestricted free agent on March 1.
Gilbert missed the entire 2007 regular season after suffering a biceps injury in the preseason and was placed on injured reserve on August 26, 2007. The 6-0, 255-pound linebacker had played in the 56 consecutive games for the Jaguars since signing with the team on Oct. 29, 2003. The 28-year-old Gilbert was the Jaguars' leading tackler on special teams in 2006.
Gilbert has played four seasons in Jacksonville after being signed off the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad on Oct. 29, 2003. He was originally a sixth round draft out of Georgia by the Cardinals. The Macon, Georgia native has played in 56 games, all with Jacksonville, and has recorded 38 career special teams tackles. He has 23 tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery on defense.
