Tell us about yourself and your connection to Jacksonville/the Jaguars:
We moved here in 1991, relocating from Northern Virginia. Cathie was a lifelong Redskins/NFL fan, and when the franchise was a possibility, we placed a deposit for tickets. A good friend arranged for a group of beaches schoolteachers and FBI agents, along with spouses, to buy a block of 15 tickets. I remember going over to the First Union building (on our lunch hour) and placing the deposit for 15 season tickets. The place was packed, demonstrating to the NFL how much Jacksonville deserved a team. We got the team and have been sitting in the same seats since the inaugural season. Cathie was pregnant with our second daughter, and she gamely sat through the very hot pre-season games in 1995 (she had the baby on August 28th).
Do you have any gameday rituals?
No real rituals, but we like to get there about an hour before kick-off to take in some warm-ups, the anthem and fly-over. We used to tailgate with the original group and enjoyed deep fried turkey, Mayport shrimp and adult beverages, but due to transfers, retirements and other life changes, we are the only remaining members of the original group.
What's your favorite part of gameday?
We love the anthem, flyovers and the halftime shows when bands from historically black colleges and universities perform.
What is your favorite Jaguars moment?
We travelled to London for the 2022 game with the Broncos. Although we lost, the city was very welcoming, and we had a great time. Because we were the home team, our announcer, cheerleaders and Jaxson de Ville were all there. It was crazy to see the fans react when Jaxson jumped off the roof at Wembley!
What do you gain from attending a game instead of watching it on tv?
Sitting with family and friends and watching the action live and in person.
What would you tell someone who is considering purchasing season tickets?
Supporting our hometown team is important. We are lucky to have one of 32 NFL teams, and the best is yet to come.
What is on your Jaguars bucket list?
Going deep into the playoffs and attending the Super Bowl one day!
