Jaguars Select Ninth In April 20-21 NFL Draft

The Jacksonville Jaguars have the ninth selection in the first round and eight picks overall when the 67th NFL draft takes place on Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21.

The two-day selection process will begin at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 20, with the first three rounds being completed that day. The remaining four rounds will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 21.

Following two straight losing years, the Jaguars will head into their eighth NFL season looking to strengthen their team through the draft. The team has already gone through what head coach Tom Coughlin calls a "rejuvenation," with 25 new players - including four unrestricted free agents and former Jaguars tight end Pete Mitchell - signed in the last three months.

In addition to their first-round pick, the Jaguars have seven other choices - one in each of the second, third, fourth, and sixth rounds, as well as three picks in the seventh round (their own and two compensatory selections). The Jaguars acquired the compensatory picks because they suffered a net loss of certain quality unrestricted free agents last year.

Jaguars Draft Day Fan Fest

In conjunction with the draft, the Jaguars are hosting the eighth annual Budweiser "Draft Day Fan Fest" beginning at noon Saturday at ALLTEL Stadium. Admission is free for an afternoon of food, fun and festivities.

Jaguars fans will be able to watch ESPN's live draft coverage on the Jumbotron screens, in addition to participating in games and entertainment that will be available, such as the NFL Experience. Fans will be able to meet Jaguars players and NFL Alumni and get autographs, be introduced to the 2002 Roar cheerleaders and team mascot Jaxson de Ville, have a Q&A session with team owner Wayne Weaver and NFL supervisor of officials Neely Dunn, and get an update on the proposed stadium renovations.

Fans can also participate in the second annual Draft Day Dash, a 5k race which will wind through downtown Jacksonville and end at the 50-yard line at ALLTEL Stadium. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each of 12 age groups. Runners will receive T-shirts and a team poster. Cameras will be posted at the 50-yard line to display runners on the Jumbotron as they cross the finish line. Entertainment will be provided from 3:00 to 7:30 p.m. by Big Al.

Select-A-Seat Campaign

The Jaguars' Select-A-Seat campaign is on for the 2002-2004 seasons. Available seats will be marked, and fans can walk around the stadium, check out the views and make their seat selections. Ticket Office Personnel will be available to assist ticket buyers.
