The Jacksonville Jaguars signed fourth-year linebacker Marquis Cooper to a contract today and released veteran linebacker Jorge Cordova. Cordova was originally re-signed on Nov. 6 and saw action in two games on special teams.

Rookie defensive end Brian Smith was moved from the Physically Unable to Perform List to injured reserve. The Jaguars' fourth-round pick from Missouri had spent the last 12 weeks on the PUP list with a hip injury suffered his senior season.

Cooper, 25, was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 19 after being claimed off waivers from Seattle on July 30. The 6-3, 220-pound linebacker was inactive for the first two games of the season with Pittsburgh. He was originally drafted by Tampa Bay in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft out of Washington. The Gilbert, Arizona native has played in 27 career games with 28 career special teams tackles with Tampa Bay and Seattle. He will wear jersey No. 58.
