The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed defensive lineman Gary
Walker, an unrestricted free agent from the Tennessee Titans.
Length and terms of the contract are not disclosed. Walker is the
first free agent to sign with the Jaguars, with the NFL's free agency
period beginning at 12:01 a.m. today.
Walker, 25, is a four-year veteran who led the team's defensive
linemen in tackles the last two seasons. In four seasons with the
Oilers, he started 46 of 62 games played and made 16 sacks,
including a career-high seven sacks in 1997. The 6-2, 295-pound
Walker can play both defensive tackle and defensive end.
In 1998, Walker had a career-high 78 tackles and tied for the team
lead with 13 QB pressures. He had a career-high nine tackles
against the Jaguars on December 13 at ALLTEL Stadium.
A fifth-round draft choice of the Houston Oilers in 1995 (159th
overall), Walker was named to several All-Rookie teams. He was
second-team All-SEC in 1994 at Auburn, where he made 15 sacks
in two seasons after transferring from Hinds Junior College in
Raymond, Miss. Walker is a native of Lavonia, Ga., and he was
All-State at Franklin Academy. He has a son, Gary Jr.
