The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed DT Ed Philion. Philion, 28, is a fourth year veteran who was waived in the Carolina Panthers' training camp in 1997 and spent the spring with the World Bowl Champion Rhein Fire in the NFL Europe League.
Philion, 6-3, 285, played in four games in 1994 with the Buffalo Bills after signing as a rookie free agent from Ferris State. In 1995 he broke his leg in the preseason and saw action in only two regular season games. He was claimed by the Panthers in 1996 off waivers and was inactive for ten games.
A native of Essex, Ontario, Canada, Philion was a Kodak first team All-America selection his senior year at Ferris State and holds the school record for fumble recoveries in a season with seven.
With the signing of Philion, the Jaguars have 85 players on their roster.
The first practice of training camp will be held Friday, July 24 at 3:20 p.m. and will be open to the public through Monday, August 17.
