The Jacksonville Jaguars signed rookie guard Uche Nwaneri to a contract today. Nwaneri was drafted with the Jaguars' first of three picks in the fifth round, and was one of 11 players selected by the Jaguars in the 2007 NFL Draft in April. He joins Brian Smith and Josh Gattis as the first three Jaguars draft picks to sign a contract.
Nwaneri, 23, was the 149th overall selection in the draft. The 6-3, 326-pound guard started 26 games at Purdue at left guard after being recruited as a defensive tackle at Naaman Forest High in Garland, Texas. As a senior, he had 44 knockdowns in 12 starts and helped the Boilermakers rank fourth in the nation in passing offense at 321.2 yards per game.
The team will conclude OTA (organized team activity) practices on June 12-14.
