The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed unrestricted free agent safety Pierson Prioleau and waived first-year free agent quarterback Lester Ricard, who spent his rookie season on the Jaguars practice squad last year.
Prioleau, 30, enters his 10th season in the NFL after spending the past three seasons with the Washington Redskins. The 5-11, 188-pounder played in 15 games last year with four starts at safety and finished with 38 tackles (24 solo) and added 16 special teams tackles. He has played in 113 career games with 47 starts with San Francisco, Buffalo and Washington. His career totals include 353 tackles (250 solo), 5.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception.
The Alvin, S.C. native played under current Jaguars defensive coordinator Gregg Williams at Washington and Buffalo. He was originally drafted by San Francisco in the fourth round of the 1999 draft out of Virginia Tech. His name is pronounced: PEER-sun PRAY-low. He will wear jersey no. 20.
