JAGUARS SIGN QUENTIN NEUJAHR TO OFFER SHEET

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed center Quentin Neujahr (pronounced "new year") of the Baltimore Ravens to an offer sheet. The Ravens now have until 12:00 midnight next Tuesday to match the offer sheet for Neujahr, who is a restricted free agent, in order to retain him. Length and terms of the offer sheet are not disclosed.

Neujahr has played three seasons for the Ravens, starting seven of nine games played in 1997, including the season opener against the Jaguars. He played in five games in 1996 at center and on special teams, and he was inactive for 15 of 16 games in '95, suiting up but not playing in one game. Neujahr was originally signed by the Los Angeles Raiders as an undrafted rookie in 1994 and then waived in training camp. He was signed by the Cleveland Browns the day after the conclusion of the '94 season.

Neujahr was a four-year letterman at Kansas State, starting 45 straight games, and he was named All-Big Eight center as a senior in 1993. He was a two-time All-State center at Centennial High in Ulysses, Neb., where he won two state wrestling titles.

As a restricted free agent, Neujahr received a qualifying offer from the Ravens prior to the start of free agency on February 13, and he is subject only to the first refusal system of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and no draft choice compensation would be required.
