The Jacksonville Jaguars today claimed FB Ron Janes off waivers from Arizona, and signed OLB Erik Storz. FB Jason Lawson was waived today.
Janes, 23, who had been waived by the Arizona Cardinals on Monday, was a seventh-round draft choice this year out of the University of Missouri. Noted as a blocking fullback, the 6-1, 276-pound Janes made 58 knockdown blocks and rushed 32 times for 123 yards last season. Janes is a native of Macon, Mo., and he was a USA Today and Super Prep All-America selection in high school.
Storz, 23, was waived on July 25 by the Cincinnati Bengals, who originally signed him as an undrafted rookie. He was recruited by Tom Coughlin in 1993 to Boston College, where he was the 1997 Big East leader in sacks (13), tying Mike Mamula's school record. He is from Rockaway, N.J.
Lawson was signed by the Jaguars on April 23 as an undrafted rookie out of the University of South Carolina. He saw action in both of the Jaguars' preseason games this year, with no carries but one reception for 10 yards.
The Jaguars' roster is now at 84 players. NFL teams have to cut their rosters to 60 players by 4:00 p.m. next Tuesday, but the Jaguars still have two exemptions from the NFL Europe League, so they will be able to carry 62 players.
On Thursday, open lockerroom for the media is from 11:15 to 11:35, and practice is at 12:00 noon. All practice are open to the media through the end of individual drills, which is approximately 20 minutes after the start of practice. The Jaguars will hold a closed walk-through on Friday before traveling to Kansas City.
