The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed six players to future contracts beginning with the 2004 season. The team signed all five players who finished the 2003 season on the Jaguars' practice squad — CB Chris Brown, G Konrad Dean, DE Michael Josiah, LB Curtis Randall and RB Joe Smith — as well as G Derrick Fletcher, a veteran free agent.
Brown and Smith were the only players who were on the team's active roster in 2003. Smith was on the 53-man roster for the season opener before being waived and signed to the practice squad, while Brown played in four midseason games, making two tackles on special teams. Josiah had two stints on the Jaguars' practice squad, Randall was with the team in training camp and brought back on November 28, and Dean was added to the practice squad for the final week of the season.
Fletcher, 28, is a three-year veteran who has been with the New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, Washington Redskins and Carolina Panthers. Originally a fifth-round draft choice in 1999, Fletcher has played in eight games with two starts. He was a three-year starter at Baylor and is a native of Houston. He is 6-6, 350 pounds.
Four of the players will be allocated to the NFL Europe League: Brown, Dean, Josiah and Randall.
