The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed veteran free agent cornerback Bruce Thornton to a contract. The third-year defensive back spent the 2006 out of the league after being waived by the New York Jets on August 11, 2006.

On Sept. 8, 2005 he was waived by Dallas and signed with San Francisco on Sept. 14 to their practice squad. He was elevated to the 53-man roster on Oct. 1 and started 11 of the final 12 games. He recorded 31 tackles, two interceptions and seven passes defensed. He will wear jersey No. 37.

With the addition of Thornton, the Jaguars' roster now stands at 87 players.
