The Jacksonville Jaguars signed defensive tackle Martin Chase and quarterback Nate Hybl to contracts today. Third-year center Brett Romberg, who was an exclusive rights player, also signed his tender today.
Chase, 30, an eighth-year veteran, had spent the previous season with the New York Giants before being waived on Feb. 22. He missed the entire 2004 season after being placed on injured reserve Aug. 30 with a knee injury. He had signed with the Giants as an unrestricted free agent in 2004 after one season in Washington. He also has spent time with New Orleans and Baltimore.
The 6-2, 310-pounder was originally a fifth-round draft choice of the Ravens in 1998 out of Oklahoma. He has played in 54 games with six career starts.
Hybl, 24, was originally an undrafted rookie free agent of the Cleveland Browns out of Oklahoma in 2003, but was waived prior to the 2004 season. The 6-4, 222-pound quarterback played in NFL Europe in spring of 2004 with the Scottish Claymores starting seven games, while completing 76 of 131 passes for 654 yards and two touchdowns.
