Jaguars sign Yelk

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed first-year punter Tony Yelk to a contract. Yelk spent the 2006 training camp with the Atlanta Falcons.

Yelk, 25, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Falcons on May 1, 2006 following four seasons at Iowa State. As a senior in 2005, Yelk served as the kickoff specialist and recorded 34 touchbacks on 67 kickoffs.

Yelk, 6-1, 205, was the team's punter his first three seasons and punted 73 times for a 41.4 average with 19 punts inside the 20 as a junior. He was selected as first-team freshman All-America and was an All-Big 12 freshman team member in 2001. He attended Poynette (Wisconsin) High where he earned all-state honors in 1999 as a senior. He will wear jersey No. 4.
