Jaguars trade for Winborn

The Jacksonville Jaguars today traded for fifth-year linebacker Jamie Winborn from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick. Defensive tackle Martin Chase was released to make room on the roster.

Winborn, 26, has started two of his three games this season for the 49ers. The 5-11, 242-pound linebacker has started 19 of the 43 games in his career with San Francisco after being drafted out of Vanderbilt in the second round of the 2001 NFL draft by the 49ers. The Wetumpka, Ala. native has 156 tackles (97 solo), nine sacks and three interceptions. He will wear jersey No. 55.

Chase, 30, had been re-signed by Jacksonville on Sept. 21 after being released in final cuts on Sept. 3. He had spent the previous season with the New York Giants on injured reserve with a knee injury. He also has spent time with New Orleans and Baltimore, where he was selected in the fifth round of the 1998 NFL draft.
