The Jacksonville Jaguars waived linebacker Lonnie Marts and have signed two of the team's ten draft choices, S Marlon McCree and G Chad Ward. Length and terms of the contracts are undisclosed.
Marts played in seven games in 2000 before being placed on injured reserve with a groin injury suffered in August, which he has fully recovered from. He has played in 147 games, starting 108 in his 11-year NFL career, and recording 595 tackles, 17 sacks, 20 forced fumbles and five interceptions. He signed with the Jaguars in 1999 and started 16 games, 14 at middle linebacker, and was third on the team with a career-high 112 tackles. Marts began his career as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1990, then playing for Tampa Bay (1994-96) and Tennessee (1997-98).
McCree was selected with the team's second selection in the seventh round (233rd overall) and Ward was selected in the sixth round (170th overall on a choice from New England).
The Jaguars' roster stands at 90 players, with 82 players under contract. Still to be signed are eight draft choices.
