The Jacksonville Jaguars today waived rookie fullback Dustin McClintock and signed veteran Joe Zelenka, a third-year tight end who also has experience as a long snapper.
McClintock, an undrafted free agent from Alabama, played sparingly in the fourth quarter of last Friday's preseason win over Carolina. Zelenka was a long snapper who played in 13 games for the San Francisco 49ers in 1999 and in all 16 games for the Washington Redskins last year. He has five tackles on special teams in his two seasons. Zelenka, 6-3, 280, is a 25-year-old native of Cleveland who played collegiately at Wake Forest. He will wear jersey No. 44.
The waiving of McClintock leaves only two fullbacks on the Jaguars' 90-man roster. Head coach Tom Coughlin said tight end Lawrence Hart and running back Stacey Mack will work there as well.
The Jaguars will have two practices on Tuesday, at 8:40 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. at Ferrell Fields. Coughlin will be available following the morning practice and players will be available during their lunch period, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Radisson Riverwalk Hotel. There will be no availability on Wednesday, which is a closed walk-though and travel day. The Jaguars face the New York Giants at 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Giants Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN, following the "Jaguars Pregame Show" at 7:30 p.m. on WJXT Channel 4.
