Jaguars waive Owens

The Jaguars waived rookie wide receiver/kick returner Chad Owens today. Owens was drafted in the sixth round and was one of eight players selected by the Jaguars in the 2005 NFL Draft in April. The Jaguars also waived offensive tackle Lester Brown from the practice squad.

Owens, 23, was the 185th overall selection in the draft. The 5-7, 183-pounder finished his four-year career at Hawaii as the team's all-time leader in all-purpose yards, receptions and punt return yards. The Honolulu native led the squad with 102 receptions for 1,290 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior. He also set the school record with five punts returned for touchdowns in 2004.
