The Jacksonville Jaguars today waived six veteran players and placed safety John Fisher on injured reserve to get down to the 53-player roster limit.
The six players that were waived were: fullback Ryan Christopherson, offensive tackle Marcus Price, gaurd Greg Huntington, defensive tackle Mike Thompson, and linebackers Brant Boyer and Ryan McCoy.
On Monday, the Jaguars will be able to sign up to five players to their practice squad.
Fisher, 23, was the first of two draft picks in the sixth round of this year's draft. He suffered a fractured ankle during last Friday night's game against Denver. He was a standout on special teams during the pre-season.
Christopherson, 24, was drafted in the fifth round of the 1995 draft. As a rookie, he rushed 16 times for 16 yards. He scored the first rushing touchdown by a running back in franchise history last October 1 in Houston. He was the team's leading scorer in the 1995 pre-season with three touchdowns, but he carried the ball just three times for four yards this year.
Price, 24, was a sixth-round draft choice last year who spent all of 1995 on injured reserve with an ankle injury that he suffered in the second pre-season game.
Huntington, 25, played in four games last season, then was waived on November 21 before being re-signed on December 26. A third-year veteran, he started at left gaurd in the final preseason game.
Thompson, 24, played in two of the last three games of 1995 as a rookie after being drafted in the fourth round. He spent the entire 1995 season on the Jaguars' roster, but he named inactive for the first 13 games. He made five tackles during this year's pre-season. He made five tackles during this year's preseason.
Boyer, 25, played on special teams in the final two games of 1995. Originally acquired in the 1995 expansion draft (22nd pick), he was waived by the team in the final cuts before being re-signed on December 13. He made seven tackles during the 1996 preseason.
McCoy, 24, spent all of 1995 on the Jaguars practice squad. A first-year free agent, he ranked sixth on the team with 16 tackles (9 solo) during this year's pre-season.
