Jimmy Smith Voted to 2002 Pro Bowl

Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith was named to the AFC Pro Bowl squad today. It is the fifth consecutive trip for Smith to the Pro Bowl, which will be played on February 9 in Honolulu. The starters will be announced during the Wild-Card playoff weekend.

With the selection, Smith joins Tony Boselli as the only Jaguars players to make five appearances. With one game remaining in the season, Smith has caught 105 passes for 1,310 yards, both second in the AFC, and he has scored seven touchdowns, one off his team single-season record. Smith made a remarkable recovery from the offseason, when he underwent three abdominal surgeries and was hospitalized for 35 days.

"I can't tell you or express what that means," said Jaguars head coach Tom Coughlin. "Having seen what that young man went through and having him play the way he's played - he deserves it. It's a great story and a great analogy for young people to understand where he came from, the fact he never lost sight of his goal, and the kind of person he is and the way he worked."
