John Oehser named jaguars.com Senior Writer

John Oehser has joined the Jaguars as Senior Writer for jaguars.com. Oehser, who grew up in Jacksonville and covered the Jaguars' first six seasons, returns to the city after 10 years. His first column will appear on jaguars.com on Monday, Feb. 14.

"We're excited to welcome John back to Jacksonville and to have him join the Jaguars family," said Dan Edwards, Jaguars Senior Vice President of Communications and Media. "John is a pro and an accomplished writer who knows this community, the history of this franchise and the NFL. He's a great addition for the organization, for jaguars.com and for our fans."

Oehser, a 22-year veteran of sports journalism, spent 12 years at the Florida Times-Union, covering the Jaguars and the NFL for the newspaper from 1995-2001. He has covered 13 playoff teams and nine Super bowls.

He and Pete Prisco, who now covers the NFL as a Senior Writer for cbssports.com, worked together as the Times-Unions' two beat reporters covering the Jaguars' early years which included four consecutive playoff seasons and two AFC Championship game appearances.

"I worked closely with John covering the Jaguars for six years," Prisco said. "He is a pro&39;s pro. He understands the NFL, and he understands the stories that need to be done. He will take the fans deep inside the players. He is a great storyteller, who is outstanding with his words. John will put his own spin on the position, but I think Jaguars fans will come love his work."

Oehser spent the last 10 seasons in Indianapolis covering the Indianapolis Colts, first as colts.com writer and later for cbssports.com as its Rapid Reports Correspondent and most recently for AOL Fanhouse as that organization&39;s AFC South Blogger.

He also covered the University of Florida and high school sports for the Times-Union, and has covered the NBA and other local events in Indianapolis.
