Jaguars first-round draft choice Byron Leftwich signed a contract at 12:30 a.m. this morning. He will be in meetings this morning and will practice with the team at 9:30 a.m. and then be available to the media during the regularly scheduled interview time between 11:30 a.m.and 12:30 p.m.
Leftwich's signing gives the Jaguars 85 players in training camp, including defensive end Tony Brackens, who is on the active/physically unable to perform list. Brackens has been working on the sidelines the last two days.
Leftwich was the seventh overall choice in this year's draft and the Jaguars' highest-drafted quarterback ever. One of the most prolific passsers in college football history during his tenure at Marshall, Leftwich completed 939 of 1,442 passes for 11,903 yards, 89 touchdowns and only 23 interceptions. The 6-5, 240-pound Leftwich started his final three seasons and was sixth in voting for the Heisman Trophy last year.
