Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Derek Landri will be the featured personality and player at the 18th Annual Cathedral Foundation Golf Classic on October 13 to Benefit Meals on Wheels. Landri will be joined by Jaguars teammate Maurice Jones-Drew as they play golf for Meals on Wheels with Jacksonville's top business and professional leaders.
Landri and Jones-Drew were high school teammates at De La Salle where the duo never lost a game. After going to different colleges, the two star players were both drafted by the Jaguars. They have played football together ever since and will now join the Cathedral Foundation in supporting Meals on Wheels.
After the golf tournament, Landri and Jones-Drew will attend the Golf Classic awards ceremony and barbecue dinner where they will auction off their own signed jerseys to two very lucky football fans.
Landri is a defensive tackle for the Jaguars who was named one of Sports Illustrated's "Top 10 Draft Steals" of the 2007 NFL Draft. At De La Salle High School he was the third player ever to receive California Player of the Year honors.
He went on to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, where he ranked ninth in school history for tackles. As a senior, he earned All-Major Independent first-team honors from The NFL Draft Report and set the single-season record for the school with four blocked kicks. After college, Landri became the third Notre Dame player ever to be drafted by the Jaguars.
The Cathedral Foundation of Jacksonville, Inc. is proud of have Landri as the featured personality for the Golf Classic, which will be held on Monday, October 13, 2008 at Deerwood Country Club. Registration begins at 10:30am. The event's guest emcee will be Nikki Preede, WJXT news team reporter.
