O-Zone: Give it a minute

JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

Bill from Ponte Vedra, FL

I thought the Jags were always allowed to play a "road" game in England so that they would not lose a home-crowd advantage for two games. Why were things different this year?

The Jaguars are scheduled to play two home games in London this season – against the Philadelphia Eagles at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium October 11 and against the Houston Texans at Wembley Stadium October 18. They indeed played one road game and one home game in the two previous seasons they have played two games in London, 2023 and 2024. Jaguars President Mark Lamping earlier this offseason detailed the reason for the difference this season, saying that the '26 Wembley game (the Texans game) is essentially the Jaguars' "normal" London game that they have typically played at Wembley for more than a decade. The '26 Tottenham home game (the Eagles game) was originally scheduled for 2030 as a game the Jaguars must play because of a league policy that teams play at least one home game internationally every four years – a game that is separate from the Wembley/London game the team plays annually. The league agreed to allow the Jaguars to play that game in London in 2026 when EverBank Stadium will be at reduced capacity and instead get that home game in Jacksonville when the Stadium of the Future will be at full capacity. "We're getting a game back that will be in Jacksonville in the new stadium at full capacity, and we're giving up a game at reduced capacity in the stadium here," Lamping said.

Hi, KOAGF. This is the time of year when it seems every player is where he wants to be, every player is going to be better, every player loves their coach and every player thinks their team is going far. It's called entertainment and having a large paycheck.

All's indeed good in May in NFL circles. Hope reigns supreme. The NFL is entertainment and why wouldn't we want all fans of all teams to feel good and hopeful in May? The NFL comes at you fast, and we well know in these parts reality can feel very harsh as early as October – and in extreme cases, September. That said, the thought here is that reality will be a good and enjoyable thing for the Jaguars and their fans in the fall of 2025. It won't be a perfect season. Those don't happen in the NFL – or at least they haven't happened in 54 years. Either way, fans will complain about something. That's OK. That's entertainment, too.

Hey O! It seems pretty clear the Jags won't debut new uniforms until 2028 (fingers crossed for modified throwbacks), but isn't the AFC South designated as one of the special "rivalry" divisions this year? So, the Jags will at least get a new uniform for one game this season, correct?

Yes, the AFC South is designated as one of the "rivalry" divisions in 2026. The Jaguars therefore will play one game with new uniforms.

Come on, fellas. There are multiple reels out there debunking the haircut, one with how they tucked his real hair into a hairnet under the wig. It would take a lot of money to get him to butcher his hair that badly.

The interweb furor that was Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence's "haircut" appears to be nearing its end. The cut was part of the Jaguars' 2026 schedule release video this past Thursday, with the question of whether Lawrence indeed cut the locks – and whether there was a wig involved, or AI – a mystery that now appears a mystery no more. 'Twas fun. Now, it seems 'tis not.

Though the schedule release is over the top to many fans, I do enjoy the creativity and the job that they come up with. The best of course is the one Asher Grodman put together. I look forward to it so I can plan a possible away game to attend. Thanksgiving in Dallas or Cincy would have been great this year ... alas. Do you get many comments about other fans planning ahead to travel or for those near the opposing home team happy to look forward to their beloved Jaguars?

Now and again.

Who is the best player to wear No. 20 for the Jaguars?

Possibilities here include safety Donovin Darius (1998-2006), running back Natrone Means (1996-1997), cornerback Jalen Ramsey (2016-2019) and perhaps safety Daniel Thomas (2020-2024). Ramsey unquestionably is the most talented player of the group – and the player of the group with the best chance at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, so he is the best player to wear No. 20 for the franchise. Best Jaguars career of the group? Nod to Darius.

My granddaddy always said I wuz the biggist mistake ever then I saw Trevor cut his hare and Im like finely a bigger mistake then I find out it's fake?!? Daaannngggggg

My grandpa – not that one, the other one – wore his suit to dinner nearly every day. There was no particular reason. He just dressed that way.

Good day, sir. I said GOOD DAY, SIR!!

Here we go, Jags.

I am as big of a Liam Coen as it gets. But I surely hope he is not so enamored going for it on fourth-and-short as to believe going for it against the Buffalo Bills was the right decision – with how that game played out. We're tied starting that final drive and maybe Trevor doesn't press as much as he kind oa did, as a field goal would have sealed the W. My point being that going for it there in the regular season and going for it in the playoffs can be - and was in this situation - two different things.

You're referencing Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen opting to go for a first down on fourth-and-2 from the 9-yard line rather than kicking a field goal in the second quarter of a Wild Card loss to the Buffalo Bills this past January – and in the process, you're resurrecting a long-dormant O-Zone discussion. Lawrence was stopped inches short of the first down on the play and instead of the Jaguars taking a 14-3 lead with a touchdown, the Bills drove for a touchdown and a 10-7 lead in what became a 27-24 Bills victory. Coen said immediately after the game that the decision was "not even a close decision. It was all go for it on all the metrics. With where you're at down there that low, you've got to go for it." Lawrence could have, and perhaps should have, gotten the first down. It was a fine call and a decision well in line with how many head coaches call NFL games these days. If Lawrence gains another inch and the Jaguars score a touchdown, they have an 11-point lead – and huge first-half momentum. I can't imagine a world in which Coen makes a different decision in that situation.

The disrespect continues. The 32nd-ranked draft. Here we are not even mentioned in the "also received consideration" list for most complete roster. They have not learned to not give Liam Coen locker room fodder. I don't think they can.

OK.

What's shocking about letting an expensive free agent running back walk, signing a free agent, and letting a group of young backs take his place? Does Mike not remember when we cut the No. 4 overall pick right before the season started for a undrafted free agent? Cutting Leonard Fournette was shocking, this is standard procedure.

Running back long has been misunderstood by fans and I sense it will remain that way. They hold the ball a lot and have easy-to-read statistics. They also score touchdowns. They therefore are high-profile and fans connect to them. Teams often see them as less valuable and therefore easy to rotate through the roster than other positions. It's a young man's position and you better be special on a special kind of level to be a second contract player. Those are rare.

KOAF: Undrafted free agent wide receiver Ben Patterson is another interesting story, the little I could uncover so far. He either just graduated or will very soon graduate with a degree in petroleum engineering (am surprised the Houston Texans or Dallas Cowboys didn't scarf him up!). He reportedly is 6'5" in height and runs a 4.3 forty. If these measurables are true, and if he can catch, he might prove to be a steal. Have you or any of your Jags media colleagues had any conversations with this young man yet?

The UDFAs, like the 2026 Jaguars draft class, has been with the team for less than a month. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
