JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

O (Oh wisen one), please weigh in with your opinion as to natural grass versus artificial grass debate as the standard for all NFL stadiums.
This from this view is an evolving issue – and I sense it might be a less-controversial issue as time passes. That is because of the rapidly evolving technology in this area. There absolutely was a time when artificial grass was awful and dangerous. Were that still the case, this is an easy conversation. But as artificial grass continues to improve, the conversation becomes more nuanced. One of the nuances is that there statistically is little-to-no difference in the injury rate between the surfaces. Another nuance is that players overwhelmingly prefer grass to artificial turf. The topic has gained notoriety this offseason because multiple NFL stadiums hosting World Cup events have imported natural grass for those games. This expectedly and understandably has annoyed pro-grass NFL players. Importing natural grass likely would be trickier for NFL games because there is less routine turnaround time for those games than there is for the "special event" that is the World Cup. My guess is the ease of maintenance involved with artificial grass, the fact that most NFL stadiums host events other than football and the cost of artificial grass will make it difficult for NFL owners to vote to mandate grass at every NFL stadium. My opinion? Grass is cool. I like it. The more games on it, the better. I just doubt we will see a rule implemented that it must be used at all NFL stadiums.

What a game. What a goal. Go USA!!!
My Scooby Sense – not my Scobee or Spidey Sense – tells me you are understandably fired up over the United States Men's National Team's 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina Wednesday in the Round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup. And how in the world couldn't you be excited? The United States played with heart and overcame what from this amateur view was a very questionable second-half "red card" that resulted in Folarin Balogun – their leading scorer in this tournament – leaving the game. I have said multiple times during the World Cup that I know enough about soccer to know I don't know much about soccer, but I know guts when I see it – and the United States on Wednesday night showed impressive guts. They played with a man disadvantage for the final 36 minutes, with midfielder Malik Tillman giving them a 2-0 lead with a clutch free kick in the 82nd minute. What a goal? Damned right. What a game? Damned right. On to Seattle to play Belgium Monday. Let's go.

Even with the dead zone in full swing, you still suck.
USA, USA, USA!

I just hate watching an exciting World Cup match then have it decided by penalty kicks. (That would be like having an NFL playoff game that is tied after regulation being decided by field goal kickers.) Instead, suppose that tied World Cup games went to short overtime periods where both teams play successive periods with increasingly fewer players. Would that not be funky, KOAF?
I like penalty kicks.

No question today. Just prayers for Calais and the Campbell family. Can't imagine what they are going through right now, and they need all of the thoughts and prayers they can get during this difficult time.
We won't dwell on this story, because there is not much to say about it in this forum. According to reports, arrest warrants say Nateal Campbell – the mother of former Jaguars defensive lineman Calais Campbell – on Tuesday was found dead at a home in Atlanta. Campbell's brother, Ciarre Campbell, was charged with murder. Unimaginable.

Who's the best player in Jaguars history to don No. 60?
We continue grinding through this discussion of Jaguars players to wear specific numbers and we now have reached offensive-line territory. Possibilities here include center Mike Brewster (2012-2013) and guard A.J. Cann (2015-2021), with center Jonah Monheim (2025-2026) now wearing it. Nod to Cann here, with an eye on Monheim moving forward.

This one is gonna be tough. What about "U?"
We have reached "U" in this discussion of all-time Jaguars players with a specific final initial. It indeed is tricky, with wide receiver Tiquan Underwood (2009-2010) and defensive end Regan Upshaw the only two "Us" in franchise history. Nod to Underwood, I guess. We'll move forward.

Maybe you missed my cryptic Fast Times reference, maybe you didn't. At least you didn't change my name to Steve.
Indeed I did not.

I am surprised by the antipathy to the Prowlers becoming the Jags "new" main uniform. I like them well enough as worn the past several seasons as the alternate uni, but might add a tweak. I would love to see the Jags Shield/Patch that adorned the 2013- 2017 jerseys incorporated onto any new uni, whether on the jersey front or on one of the sleeves (which would be a nod to U.S. Military Unit patches, as Jax is a military/Navy town with many Vets from all the service branches). I always thought it should be used as the Midfield logo, replacing the long-used Jaguar head. This brings me to my query: Does the NFL regulate what teams display at midfield and end zones? I ask because I think The Shield at midfield teamed with the full-bodied Prowler Jaguar in the end zones would look fantastic and be unique to Duval. Another nice alternative would be to have "DUUUVAL" or "DUUU-VAL!" Also: I agree on ships having sailed. I saw Elvis, accompanied only by his pianist, Steve Nieve, in New York City in the early aughts. While a fine, well-performed show, the early 80s Attractions it certainly wasn't. I did, however, get to see The Cure several times prior to their having fallen in love on a Friday.
A few thoughts on your thoughts/questions. One, I expect the Jaguars' (theoretical) new uniforms could have a Prowler feel with some other elements – though I don't know any details because I am not sure there are yet details to know. Two, the NFL does regulate what can be displayed at midfield and in end zones – though any specifics of what will be in those in the Stadium of the Future beginning in 2028 is well outside my purview and above my paygrade. Also: Any show with Elvis Costello accompanied by Steve Nieve is worth seeing, with Nieve's brilliance on keyboards on a par with Costello's genius as a lyricist and performer. I am glad you got to see the Cure. My good friend, the late local bassist/artist Chris McFall, was a Cure fan of the highest order and would have loved to have been right there with you. Yesterday, I got so old it made me want to cry.

The talk about using the terms anterior cruciate ligament versus ACL got me 'memberin some things. The process for professional writing is similar when it comes to people's names and numbers. The first time a name appears in an article, it should contain the first and last name and then depending on the type of publication, only the last name is used from then on in said publication. Similarly, writing out numbers versus writing digits should generally occur for the numbers one through nine with digits being used for larger numbers, and digits should generally always be written out at the start of the sentence, or when quoting dialog. Of course these rules are not written in blood, but they are best practices, and it is no surprise that you adhere to them. King of funk or fools, you do come from the old school of journalism. A little adherence in this case is good and helpful to those less familiar with the team, so thanks, I guess.
I don't know if it is an old-school/new-school thing as much as a right-or-wrong thing. An anterior cruciate ligament is different than a medial collateral ligament is different than a posterior cruciate ligament. I spell it out in this forum partly because of that difference, partly because it's right thing to do and partly because it annoys some people. So you're welcome, I guess.

I am poking the bear here a bit, but what would all the phrases be on the O-Zone coffee mug? Besides, of course, KOAF ...
Go eat lunch at a different table – ideally in an another room. You're not going to make the team. Get away from me, loser. Do you not ever work out? Wait … that's my high school mug.
