Round 5: Armstead is the selection

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars address running back depth early Saturday.

They did so with a running back who had his best collegiate season this past season, and who had a knack for scoring.

Ryquell Armstead, a running back from Temple University, was selected by the Jaguars with the second selection of Round 5 of the 2019 NFL Draft Saturday. The selection was the 140th overall.

Armstead (5-feet-11, 220 pounds), rushed for 2,812 yards and 34 touchdowns in four seasons at Temple. He rushed for 1,098 yards and 13 touchdowns on 210 carries this past season.

He caught 29 passes for 175 yards in four seasons.

The Jaguars selected linebacker/defensive end Josh Allen from Kentucky in Round 1 (No. 7 overall) Thursday before selecting Florida offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor in Round 2 (No. 35 overall), San Jose State tight end Josh Oliver in Round 3 (No. 69 overall) and Murray State linebacker Quincy Williams in Round 3 (No. 98 overall). They have three selections remaining: one in Round 6 (No. 178 overall) and two in Round 7 (Nos. 235 and 236 overall).

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Temple RB in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
