Wednesday Quick Hits: "We Have to Make It Turn…"

WED QH

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars on Wednesday practiced at the Miller Electric Center.

The Jaguars (2-1) will play the Cincinnati Bengals (2-1) at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sunday in a 2026 Week 4 game. A look at Wednesday around the Jaguars – with Head Coach Liam Coen speaking to the media before practice and quarterback Trevor Lawrence among players speaking following practice:

An offseason Jaguars area of focus is getting some significant early-season results.

The Jaguars, who ranked 20th in the NFL in run offense in 2025, rank 10th in the category through three games this season at 119.3 yards per game with 4.2 yards per carry. This was an area of focus this past offseason after the Jaguars averaged 91.3 yards rushing over their last six games.

Running back Bhayshul Tuten leads the Jaguars with 204 yards and two touchdowns rushing this season, with running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. rushing for 73 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.

The Jaguars have rushed for at least 95 yards in all three games this season, and they rushed for a season-high 137 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-6 victory over the defending AFC Champion New England Patriots this past Sunday.

"You can really dictate more when you're running the ball well," Lawrence said. "It feels like you're going with your plan more and you're calling what you want to call as opposed to sometimes when you get behind the chains, you feel like you're on your heels a little bit and you're having to make up some ground.

"The feeling part of that as a player, that is a real thing. I think when you can run the ball, it helps with that."

Added Coen, "When you can run the football, the pressure it takes off of the quarterback and obviously the skill players in ways to where it's not every down is so critical, not every throw is so magnified that the quarterback has enough critical downs throughout a game. It's something obviously we've worked at, we've worked hard at and it takes all 11."

The Jaguars during Lawrence's five previous NFL seasons have played the Bengals three times, with Bengals winning all three meetings.

"We have to make it turn; we have to go win it," Lawrence said.

The Jaguars lost to the Bengals at Cincinnati, 31-27, in Week 2 last season. The Bengals beat the Jaguars 34-31 in December 2023 in overtime in Jacksonville and 24-21 in Cincinnati in September 2021, Lawrence's rookie season.

"It's definitely something when you're going into this game that you think about," Lawrence said. "You're not sitting there thinking about it every second of the day all week, but I've thought about it. It's a team we haven't beat and we lost a tough one there early in the season last year.

"That's one we definitely want back. All those things, you think about and you move on. You have to put your energy toward something that's toward preparing and being ready to go."

NOTABLE

Wide receiver Parker Washington continues to emerge as one of the Jaguars' best players – and one of the NFL's best young players at his position.

Washington, a sixth-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, has 15 receptions this season for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He caught three passes for 40 yards and a key, 17-yard third-down touchdown in the third quarter Sunday.

"What's cool about Parker is the strength at the catch point, being fearless through the catch point," Coen said. "He has a mindset of, 'When the ball is in the air, it's mine.' You can't always teach it. You can't always coach it. It has to come from within.

"It has to come from doing it out there in practice as we've all seen Parker do pretty consistently. That's why in critical situations Trevor has the confidence and Parker's got the confidence to go and make that play."

NOTABLE

The Jaguars issued the first of three injury reports for the week Wednesday, with seven players listed as practicing limited: Running back LeQuint Allen Jr. (hip), wide receiver Jakobi Meyers (thumb), right tackle Cole Van Lanen (knee), nose tackle DaVon Hamilton (back), cornerback Christian Braswell (knee), defensive tackle Albert Regis (elbow) and cornerback Montaric Brown (hamstring). Cornerback Jarrian Jones (hip) was listed as practicing full.
