JACKSONVILLE – Part of the future of the wide receiver position in Jacksonville was secured Tuesday afternoon.

Allen Robinson, the 61st overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, Robinson signed his rookie contract Monday afternoon before heading with the rest of the Jaguars' draft class to the NFL Rookie Symposium in Aurora, Ohio.

"It was real exciting," Robinson said immediately after signing. "It took a little bit of time, but we finally have that done and out of the way. It's just a breath of fresh air to get that out of the way."

Robinson was the second wide receiver selected by the team in the second round after the Jaguars selected Marqise Lee from Southern California with the 39th overall pick. Both receivers missed significant practice time during OTAs and minicamp, Lee with an ankle injury and Robinson with a hamstring injury.

With the signing complete, Robinson can concentrate on the weeks ahead and getting back on the field for training camp in late July.

"I've been doing some running and stuff, so it's getting a lot better," Robinson said. "I should be ready for training camp."

Details of the contract were not released by the team. All rookies except for first-round selections sign four-year contracts.

Robinson (6-feet-3, 210 pounds), a second-round selection from Penn State, is a potential starter at wide receiver, along with second-round draft pick Marqise Lee and fourth-year veteran wide receiver Cecil Shorts III. The Jaguars traded up to select Robinson in the 2014 NFL Draft in May.

"That's been a lot of fun getting around these guys, just learning from each other and trying to move forward," Robinson said. "As a group, we have a lot of young guys on the team and I think that's what makes our culture a good one.

"Coach Gus (Bradley) is always preaching for us young guys to get better, and continue to get better and push each other, and that's what makes this a great program."

Robinson became the eighth member of the Jaguars' 2014 draft class to sign, joining first-round quarterback Blake Bortles (Central Florida), third-round offensive guard Brandon Linder (Miami), fourth-round cornerback Aaron Colvin (Oklahoma), fifth-round linebacker Telvin Smith (Florida State), fifth-round defensive end Chris Smith (Arkansas), sixth-round center Luke Bowanko (Virginia) and seventh-round running back Storm Johnson (Central Florida).

Only second-round wide receiver Marqise Lee (Southern California) remains unsigned.

The Jaguars sign WR Allen Robinson to his rookie deal. They drafted the Penn State WR after trading for pick No. 61 in the 2014 NFL Draft.
