JACKSONVILLE – One day at a time.
That is how Brian Thomas Jr. is approaching the final week of 2026 Training Camp, which is how he approached the offseason. And the early part of training camp. With the regular season fast approaching, the Jaguars' third-year receiver continues to focus on the present.
For him, that starts with practices such as Day 18 of amp at the Miller Electric Center Monday, a 90-minute walkthrough as the Jaguars prepare to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for joint practices Tuesday and Wednesday.
"I just want to finish out these joints strong, and then get ready, get my body ready, get ready for the season," Thomas said Monday. "Really just taking it day by day, staying focused on the task at hand."
Thomas' efforts in practices have been lauded by the Jaguars since the spring offseason program, with the 2024 first-round selection showing increased chemistry and connection with starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
"I would say just being a better leader and being better with my communication – whether that's with the coaching staff, Trevor, the wide receivers," Thomas said. "I would say that's probably been the biggest thing for me.
"I was just being super intentional about that. Just trying to grow in all the little things."
Communication is key to what the Jaguars have built on the field and within the organization, an effort spearheaded by Head Coach Liam Coen. Thomas on Monday said his relationship with Coen has "grown a lot" since the Jaguars hired him as head coach in January 2025, with their ability to communicate being critical to that process.
"Just trying to be intentional about those little things, being communicative about the things that I'm seeing and just listening to the things that he's seeing so we can be better as an offense and be better as a group," Thomas said.
Joint practices with the Buccaneers will offer Thomas and the Jaguars' starting offense one last good chance to sharpen their communication and operation against an opponent before they play host to the Cleveland Browns at EverBank Stadium Week 1.
Thomas, like most Jaguars starters, did not play against the New Orleans Saints Preseason Week 1 or the Carolina Panthers Preseason Week 2.
"I actually like the joints better than going out there and playing in [the preseason]," Thomas said Monday. "I feel like we get more work done during the joints. And I feel like people are actually going out there and giving it everything during the practice. So, I feel like we get a lot more out of it than that."
Tuesday's practice against the Buccaneers comes two years after Thomas started his rookie breakout in a 2024 joint practice with Tampa Bay.
"I would say that was a big confidence boost for me, because I wasn't having the best camp my rookie year," Thomas said. "Just being able to go out there and have a good joint practice, I would say that was a super big confidence boost for me, just letting me know that I can do this and keep my head up and just keep pushing."

- Jaguars second-year safety Caleb Ransaw has gotten plenty of repetitions in the first two preseason games. Ransaw, a third-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, missed his rookie season with a foot injury, and the last two preseason games have been the closest he has been to true NFL game action. "He had a good week last week," Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile said. "Even in the game, there are things that you always want to clean up and correct, but he has done a good job being diligent about that and trying to get those things corrected even in the last two days. I see really good detail with him. [Sunday]'s practice, I thought he had a really good day. We went through a bunch of stuff in here, and I thought he did a really good job."

Those are two great players. The cool thing about any of these settings when you're going against somebody else is, it's competitive. You'll see those guys.
