Defensive Lineman Arik Armstead Signs Deal with Jaguars

16x9-Armstead-Signed

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars stayed aggressive Friday – really aggressive.

They did so on the defensive front, acquiring an experienced player with a first-round resume and significant postseason experience.

Arik Armstead, a defensive tackle who played his first nine seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, has signed with the Jaguars. The team announced the move Friday, two days after the start of the 2024 NFL League Year.

Armstead, the No. 17 overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft by the 49ers, started 97 of 116 games over the past nine seasons. He registered 33.5 sacks over that span, including five this past season and a career-high 10 in 2019. He has started 12 playoff games, and his eight sacks in those games were the second-most in 49ers franchise history.

The Jaguars earlier this week signed five free agents from other teams: Cornerback Ronald Darby (Baltimore Ravens), safety Darnell Savage Jr. (Green Bay Packers), wide receiver/returner Devin Duvernay (Ravens), wide receiver Gabe Davis (Buffalo Bills) and center Mitch Morse (Bills). They also on Thursday officially acquired quarterback Mac Jones as a backup from the New England Patriots in a trade.
