JACKSONVILLE – A lot has changed for Jarrian Jones since he was drafted by the Jaguars. Those changes include himself.
Jones has always been confident in his abilities, but the third-year cornerback has taken great strides since draft night a few years ago due to the growth and development he has displayed. That same growth and development has made Jones one of the top stories of 2026 Training Camp thus far.
"When I came in my rookie year, I watched film, but I was more like, 'I was better than you. Like I am a better football player than you. I am going to have more dog in me than you.' I have all that," Jones said following Day 9 of 2026 Training Camp.
"Now it is more honing in on that, keeping that, but like just watching a lot more film and understand how offenses try to attack me.
"That's kind of like where my growth has been mentally."
Jones has been a standout performer for the Jaguars' secondary since training camp began in late July. He is coming off a strong 2025 season where he appeared in all 17 games (three starts) and recorded 43 tackles (31 solo), including six for loss and eight passes defensed. He also intercepted three passes, the third-most on the team.
Now, the Jaguars are ready to see him do even more. Even more, in his case, means playing multiple spots in the secondary and becoming a true chess piece for Defensive Coordinator Anthony Campanile.
"I love Jarrian, love coaching him," Campanile said. "He's a really sharp football player. He constantly is working at it away from the field. And that has helped him kind of branch out and play different spots."
This has meant Jones taking on a larger role than most cornerbacks. He has played both outside cornerback and in the nickel spot for the Jaguars, and Campanile believes his potential does not end there.
"He's in there as a nickel, in there as a dime, and in there as a corner," Campanile said. "He even has taken reps in here in some settings as a safety. He is a really sharp football guy, and he is constantly working at his craft. I think him working with Mat [Defensive Pass Game Coordinator Mathieu Araujo], just watching that, his process has been a lot of fun to watch."
Jones is set to be a key piece of a Jaguars secondary that has grown up together over the last few seasons. Jones, cornerback Montaric Brown, and safety Antonio Johnson were all drafted by the franchise in the span of three years, and the chemistry the young group has built has become a critical part of Jones' success.
"I'm excited to see them make plays because I've seen how much work we put in together," Jones said. "I feel like that about everybody. Obviously, we have been together for a long time, so we are super close."
Jones is quick to say he has not yet arrived, and he said he knows there are still more goals for him and the Jaguars' defense. But so far, Jones has been one of camp's best performers and has made himself a player to watch as the Jaguars prepare for Week 1.
"Not enough, not enough. You always try to build on it," Jones said. "I am having fun. I am making a lot of plays, but there is a lot more to left out there."
