Jaguars 2026 Training Camp Snapshot: Day 2

CAMP SNAP DAY 2

JACKSONVILLE – The secondary continues to grow and mature.

That remains a theme early in Jaguars 2026 Training Camp, which continued Thursday at the Miller Electric Center with a one-hour, 45-minute practice in helmets and no pads – a day that featured plenty of work in the passing game.

For a talented secondary in its second season in coordinator Anthony Campanile's defense, it was another productive day.

"Anytime there's familiarity, you can hit the ground running a little bit more," Campanile said following Thursday's practice.

"We probably have, I would say a little bit more in than we did at this point last year."

The Jaguars' defense through two days of camp has produced several plays on the ball. Cornerbacks Jarrian Jones and Jourdan Lewis each broke up two passes Thursday, with defensive backs Jabbar Muhammad and Devon Marshall also recording pass breakups.

"We have a pretty comprehensive system," Jaguars safety Eric Murray said Thursday. "People like me, [safety Antonio Johnson], and people who've been in the system before and got the year under their belt, we are able to relay the information to [everyone] way better.

"They're coming along very quickly."

Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen said during the offseason program he was pleased with the progress of the secondary – progress that has continued early in camp and that Campanile said must continue in the coming weeks.

"But at the end of the day, it's about repetition," Campanile said. "It's a muscle memory type of sport. Like anything else, like in martial arts, you have to get better and better and better.

"You get better by doing things over and over and over again. More is more. More reps, more opportunity to get out here and practice. More reps in the walkthrough. That's what we need right now. I think that's what everybody needs this time at camp."

Here's a look at Thursday's practice:

PLAY OF THE DAY

Rookie tight end Tanner Koziol had a habit of making exciting catches over the course of the offseason program, and he did the same thing on Day 2 of camp. Backup quarterback Nick Mullens unleashed a deep throw for Koziol down the middle of the field that the fifth-rounder managed to snag out of the air after he made a leaping adjustment over linebacker Ventrell Miller – who was once again right there in coverage. Koziol got the crowd on their feet with that one and generated one of the biggest gains of the day for the offense.

STANDING OUT

  • Defensive lineman Ruke Orhorhoro made a few standout plays, even without the pads on. He recorded what would have amounted to a sack in the passing game and then another tackle for loss against the run.
  • Rookie receiver Josh Cameron continues to stand out as a downfield threat, making a terrific grab for a big gain near the sideline against defensive back Keni-H Lovely during team drills.
  • Second-year cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter caught his first pass in team drills of training camp, bringing in a chunk gain near the sideline on a throw from quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

QUOTABLE

Murray on his 11th NFL season: "Just trying to be one of the guys. I know I'm older, but just being with them and spending time with them, like I feel like that's the best thing I could give to them. And it's a lot of different stuff other than football that you have to navigate while you're in the NFL. That's the biggest thing for me, just being able to tell them my life experience and show them how to do the right thing. Because it's a lot of people out there not doing the right thing."

QUOTABLE

Hines-Allen on defensive end Travon Walker: "He's just an overall great guy. On the field, he's a brother. He treats everybody the same. He jokes, he plays, he's serious. He knows when to turn it on, when to turn it off. When you step on the field, he has that mindset that he is the best in the world. For me, having a guy that I can rely on like that is huge. And then off the field, having a guy that I can depend on, it's amazing to have in the locker room. He's just a great locker room guy."

INJURY WATCH

Linebacker Jack Kiser sustained a right knee injury Wednesday and is expected to return to practice later in camp. Left tackle Cole Van Lanen (knee) and offensive lineman Garrett DiGiorgio (foot) remain on the Physically Unable to Perform list, with Van Lanen on Thursday working and running on the side during in practice.
