Roster Moves: Jaguars Sign Dawuane Smoot and Trenton Irwin

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Jaguars have made the following roster moves, the team announced today:

  • Signed DE Dawuane Smoot and WR Trenton Irwin
  • Waived WR David White Jr.

Smoot was originally drafted by the Jaguars in the third round (68th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft. During his seven seasons in Jacksonville, he produced 133 tackles, 64 quarterback hits, 23.5 sacks, five passes defensed and five forced fumbles. His 23.5 sacks rank 10th in team history. In 2024, he signed with the Bills as a free agent, appearing in 11 games (four starts) and recording 16 tackles, four quarterback hits and 1.5 sacks. Smoot was the Jaguars' 2023 nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award. He and his wife, Aumari, still operate the Elsie Academy, a bilingual early-learning center in Jacksonville.

Irwin originally signed with Miami as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 41 games (nine starts) for Cincinnati (2019-24) and totaled 46 receptions for 601 yards and five touchdowns. Irwin also appeared in three postseason contests for the Bengals and caught two passes for 19 yards. A native of Valencia, Calif., he played collegiately at Stanford from 2015-18 and finished his career ranked 10th in school history in receptions (152) and 12th in receiving yards (1,738).
