QB Trevor Lawrence: Jaguars' Offense "Feeling Strong" Entering Week 9

WED QH

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars on Wednesday practiced at the Miller Electric Center.

  • Lawrence's confidence in the offense remains high.

While the Jaguars haven't been as explosive or as consistent offensively through seven games as would be ideal, the fifth-year veteran called the issues facing the offense "very correctable things and things that I know that we can execute and can do well and we can be a really good offense."

"We haven't done that to this point," Lawrence said. "We haven't played a complete game, but feel very optimistic about where we're heading, the direction we're going, everyone being on the same page."

The Jaguars, while ranking 15th in the NFL at 334.9 yards per game, rank 25th in scoring at 20.9 points per game. They averaged less than 10 points in back-to-back losses to the Seattle Seahawks (20-12) and the Los Angeles Rams (35-7) entering this past week's Week 8 bye.

Coen in recent weeks has discussed reducing avoidable errors and staying in manageable down-and-distance situations offensively, as well as the need for better run-pass balance, with Lawrence on Wednesday saying the offense hasn't "played to our standard."

"The things that we've talked about, that we've known are problems, that we haven't done well are evident that we need to improve on," Lawrence said, "I really feel confident, optimistic, moving forward that this unit is going to really make the improvements, and obviously starts with me, and I'm excited for another opportunity. …"

And while the Jaguars' veteran defensive end on Wednesday declined to discuss specifics about the health of his left wrist – and just how that wrist will be protected Sunday – he said the areas is getting stronger and he's feeling better.

"I'm ready for it to be 100 percent all the way," Walker said. "I feel great, though. I'm not saying I don't feel good. I feel like I'm coming along. My healing process is definitely coming along well."

Walker after undergoing wrist surgery missed a Week 5 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. He played with a "club" protecting the wrist against the Seahawks and Rams.

"We're going to see how it is come game time," Walker said of his wrist protection Sunday. …

That was clear listening to Coen Wednesday, with the second-year veteran having caught 27 passes for 365 yards and one touchdown this season after playing in the Pro Bowl following a record-setting rookie season.

"You're continuing to try to just keep pushing through that," Coen said. "There is going to be a breakthrough at some point here to just connect and doing it. It has to happen as much as it can in practice, but also in the game it has to come to life for that connection to truly go the way it needs to go.

"It takes work, it takes patience, it takes time and you're just hopeful that it's going to be able to come to life here."

Thomas, the No. 23 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, also has had drops issues this season and is credited by FOX Sports as leading the NFL with nine drops through seven games.

"You can catch yourself trying to press a little bit," Thomas said Wednesday. "That comes with it. You have to catch it in the moment and tell yourself, 'Relax, chill, finish out, be confident and finish out strong.'''

Coen added that the Jaguars "still have a lot of confidence" in Thomas and the passing offense.

"I threw it 40 something times in the last two games," Coen said. "If I lost confidence in the pass game, I probably wouldn't have done that. …"

  • The Jaguars on Wednesday issued their first of three injury reports for the week, with safety Eric Murray missing practice with a neck injury.
  • Linebacker Devin Lloyd, the AFC's Defensive Player of the Month for September who missed the loss to the Rams with a calf injury, practiced limited Wednesday.
  • The following six Jaguars players also practiced limited Wednesday:
