Knee surgery for Westmoreland

Third-round draft choice Eric Westmoreland underwent arthroscopic surgery today to repair cartilage in his left knee. Westmoreland, a backup weak side linebacker who was seeing extensive playing time on passing downs, suffered the knee injury in practice this past Sunday.

Starting weak side linebacker T.J. Slaughter will not play in Dallas tomorrow night in the preseason finale. Slaughter is nursing a separated right shoulder. The Jaguars hold out hope Slaughter will be able to play in the season-opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 9. If he should be unable to play, reserve strong side linebacker Danny Clark would be a likely candidate to replace Slaughter.
