BALTIMORE, Md. – This was methodical, efficient and really important.
The Jaguars weren't always necessarily eye-catchingly spectacular in a 33-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Stadium Thursday – and that was OK because this was a night for winning however possible.
Spectacular could – and did – wait for another day.
Yes, the Jaguars were supposed to win Thursday – particularly with the Ravens playing without two-time Most Valuable Player quarterback Lamar Jackson. But teams lose games they're supposed to win all the time in the NFL. The Jaguars not only won Thursday, but they left very little doubt about the outcome from very early in the game.
That's impressive stuff, and that's the storyline from Thursday.
Let's get to it …

MVP?
Your brief email presumably is wondering if Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence might be in consideration for NFL Most Valuable Player. There's a long way to go in this conversation, with the Jaguars having played just eight of 17 regular-season games. He was effective when it mattered Thursday, completing 16 of 26 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. That's what he is – really good, really efficient and really a major reason the Jaguars are really good. Considering Lawrence now has 17 touchdown passes with four interceptions this season, and considering the eye test matches those statistics … yes, Lawrence absolutely should in consideration for any such postseason honors should he continue playing at this level. He's as good as any quarterback in the NFL right now. Here's hoping he's recognized as such.

Hey, John. The Yulee Express never got rolling and was stopped in his tracks. Very nice job by the Jags' D against a still tough and dangerous legend (some may even call him a Northeast Florida Cultural Icon, but I may be thinking of someone else). Go Jags!
The Jaguars limited Ravens running back Derrick Henry to 57 yards on 17 carries. The Ravens had to take that approach considering Jackson's absence. The Jaguars knew this and worked extensively on defending Wildcat formations. They defended those formations very well Thursday. Good on them.

JMWD! (JALEN MCLEOD WASN'T DOWN!)
Too soon.

I can't get the radio to line up to the game. I'm forced to listen to Michaels' droning commentary for the first time since he decided monotone was the best voice for the NFL's largest playoff comeback of all time. Other than the fact we have an elite, highly functioning offense, (Björk!), this is horrible news. I am old, aren't I?
This was the much-ballyhooed, wildly-anticipated, not-all-that-pertinent-to-everyone First Email of the Game. I guess you don't like Al Michaels, whose delivery long has been measured and professional – and who now calls Thursday games for Amazon. And yes, you are old. Welcome to my world.

Jaguars tight end Nate Boerkircher is cool. I like him.
Pretty decent pick after all.

I'm with you on this after 1 p.m. game stuff. I'm normally going to bed right now.
This email came around 9:20 p.m., late in the first half – around the time Jaguars wide receiver Parker Washington's 50-yard touchdown reception gave the Jaguars a 17-3 lead late in the first half. It correctly noted that I prefer 1 p.m. home games as opposed to prime-time games. I appreciated the email. It woke me from my slumber.

Pay Parker!!!
They want to!!!

Does the average NFL fan understand that Lamar Jackson would not have made a difference in the outcome of this game?
Maybe. Maybe not. The Jaguars are 6-2.

I'm genuinely tired of hearing the blasé, blasé laziness from the media towards our Jags. Everyone continually dismisses our dominance. This team is different. Keep smashing folks! Great win. Hope they can rest up a bit.
The Jaguars are 6-2 and lead the AFC South by three-and-a-half games. They're good and getting better. They're one of the NFL's best teams. That matters. What the media says doesn't.

O, the Jags took care of business on a rainy evening in Baltimore. No significant injuries. Ten days to prepare for the next game. All's good.
Yes, it is.
Oscar Andres Soltero Sr. from Chula Vista
Good job Jacksonville jaguars.
Yes, it was.
Jacob from NY
Thank you. I was worried about the defense injuries. My goodness jags just win don't they?
Yes.
