JACKSONVILLE – Look-ahead Wednesday.
Let's get to it …

John, I always thought that development happens mostly in the offseason where players can work on mechanics, fundamentals, etc. Watching Trevor this year, and especially the last 3 games, it looks like he's in the midst of taking "a step" and I'm unsure if it's because he is, or he's just becoming, more and more comfortable in the offense. What do you think? Either way the timing couldn't be better!
I think this is a fascinating development and key storyline as the Jaguars (8-4) prepare to play the New York Jets (3-10) at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville Sunday because you're precisely right that Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence appears to be taking a positive step in the last few weeks. He clearly is playing with more confidence than was the case early in the season, and has thrown 9 touchdowns during the Jaguars' four-game winning streak that has them in sole possession of first place in the AFC South. His last two games, particularly a two-touchdown performance in a 36-19 victory over the Indianapolis Colts this past Sunday, may have been as well as he has played in five NFL seasons. Why now? A few thoughts. I think Lawrence spent the offseason learning and adjusting to Head Coach Liam Coen's scheme and it can take a while for a quarterback to adjust to a new scheme. I think Lawrence for the most part showed signs of developing early from the start of the season and that a few maddening mistakes caused a lot of doubters to miss those signs of development. I think he has responded well to Coen counseling him to "Let it Rip" in recent weeks, with the result being Lawrence playing freer and with more confidence in the last month. And no question: The timing is right. The thought here is we may be seeing Lawrence taking a very sustainable next step. Stay tuned.

So, I keep hearing local and national media parrot the same thing: What are the Jaguars great at? As in … to be great, you have to be great at something. This is a false narrative in so much as we are doing great by being good to very good at most things (Penalties notwithstanding). I suppose if you have to be "great" at something, we are No. 1 against the run, but I don't think this is THE reason we are 9-4.
The Jaguars have beaten the Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers. All of these teams are good. Maybe what the Jaguars are great at is winning – or at least pretty good.

The really interesting thing about this offense is Brian Thomas Jr. doesn't have to be a true No. 1 wide receiver. If he makes 2-to-3 big catches a game like he did Sunday, we will win a lot more games.
Yep.
Chiana from Munich
I am amazed by this team. There is a real shot for the AFC to have 4-to-5 teams within a game for the No. 1 seed. (If the New England Patriots lose to the Buffalo Bills and the Denver Broncos to the Green Bay Packers). Suddenly, that Denver game could be game-of-the-year material for the AFC, with implications from No. 1 Seed to No. 7 Seed. Of course, the Jets game comes first, but I trust this team to not overlook the Jets and take care of business, setting up a big game.
I have no idea if the Jaguars will win Sunday. This is the NFL and while the Jets are struggling, they have won 3 of 6 games and have scored at least 27 points in their 3 victories. I expect the Jaguars to be motivated. That doesn't always mean winning.

I know it's too early look at tiebreakers, but if Houston wins out and Jags lose only at Denver, would Texans win division based on better conference record?
Yes.
Chris from Mandarin, FL
Do you think the Jaguars will get to 12 regular-season wins?
The Jaguars to do this will have to win three of four games against the Jets (3-10) at home, the Broncos (11-2) on the road, the Colts (8-5) on the road and the Tennessee Titans (2-11) on the road. I think there's a better chance they finish 3-1 during that stretch than any other record. I also think it will be hard because winning in the NFL is hard.

One fer Brenton Strange?
Tight end Brenton Strange might be the Jaguars' best player and he's rapidly making an argument as one of the NFL's best tight ends. One fer Strange? Absolutely.
Chris from St. Augustine, FL
I don't think there are even words to describe how important Brenton Strange is to this team. Even when he isn't catching the ball, he's blocking or grabbing the ball carrier and trying to help them gain every yard possible. He is a lot of fun to watch outside of just catching the ball.
Yep.

Follow up to the surprise trip for my son: The trip down was incredible and we had a blast. We tailgated with the BCB crew, who treated us like old friends and we even did a Circle Up! We celebrated with complete strangers after every big play like we had known them for years. We chanted "BTJ, BTJ, BTJ" with the stadium after one of his big catches. My daughter, who is not a football fan, came along with us and said it felt like we were hanging out with family. Since this is a Q/A forum I ask you KOAF- Has Walker Little been Wally Pipp'd?
We'll look back here on Look-Ahead Wednesday because this is cool. First thought: It's not surprising the Bold City Brigade crew welcomed you. While odd, frightening and often disturbed, they're good people who love this fan base. Second thought: The Jaguars' fan base is indeed like a family. Third thought: I believe offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen will stay in the lineup, though just how that looks remains to be seen.

NFL Coach of the Year voting is based on the regular season or includes postseason results?
Various media outlets sanction various end-of-season awards. Most are based on regular-season results.

In the past few weeks I've heard your buddy Prisco paint the picture that the Jags aren't great at anything and they don't win decisively. How about our run defense? Also, I think we've had several decisive wins where we trot out the backup quarterback at the end of games. What is going on with the "observers"???
I spend little time observing NFL observers, usually paying attention only when reader point out something some observer did or didn't say. This includes Pete Prisco of CBS Sports, a close friend whose opinion I respect. I don't know what Prisco said about the Jaguars this week or how that changed from previous weeks. I know the Jaguars beat good teams and that they are a good team that's getting better. I also know they lead the AFC South, stop the run well and are looking more and more like a team that can get into the playoffs and win games there.
Levi from Bedford
I loved the win but hated to see Indiana Jones go down like that. Even though he's on a rival team, was enjoying seeing him turn his career around after all the crap he went through in New York. Hope he recovers and can come to town next year for another showdown. One fer Indiana Jones.
Colts quarterback Daniel Jones is on injured reserve with an Achilles injury sustained against the Jaguars Sunday. An Achilles is a brutal injury for any player. Full recovery can take a long time and is not guaranteed. One fer Jones. Absolutely.

Don't know if your re-watch process includes the network broadcast, but at one point my second favorite retired Texan went on at length about how much he liked the Jaguars Prowlers uniforms, even stating that he believed they should make them permanent. It was cool. I liked it.
I don't dig deep into the network broadcast, but I had heard that former Texans defensive end J.J. Watt spoke highly of the Jaguars' Prowler Throwback uniforms during the Jaguars-Colts broadcast. Sunday. Watt in the opinion of some is cool. Few Jaguars fans like him. The Prowlers are cool. Most fans seem to like them.
James from Titusville, NJ
Electric! Some time ago when the Jags were a "crappy" 5-4 team (sarcasm), I wrote how excited I was to fly down with my kids for their first NFL game against the Jets. I'm now even more excited! Win, lose, or draw next week, these Jags should be fun for my kids to watch next week.
James and his soon-to-be amply-fed airborne children are ready for some football.
