O-Zone: Emotional night

JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

Michael from Saint Augustine, FL

The full Trevor Lawrence experience. Hard-counting into oblivion, taking a sack on the final drive, two of the most incredible throws I have ever seen, falls down on first-and-goal and scores. I think I had a stroke. Franchise-defining win. Had so much fun my wife made me go watch the game in the living room. Go Jags.

The Jaguars on Monday beat the three-time defending AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs, 31-28, at EverBank Stadium – and this one indeed was about as crazy, weird and unexpected a manner of victory as the Jaguars have had a while. And a lot of your email is dead on. It was fun. And franchise-defining. Perhaps not stroke-inducing, but close. And Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence had some imperfect moments. But he also ran for two touchdowns, threw for another and had two remarkable throws on the game-winning drive – a 33-yarder to wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. and a 13-yarder to wide receiver Dyami Brown. He capped the evening with a 1-yard run on which he had his foot stepped on, fell, slipped (perhaps twice), broke a tackle and dove into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown with :23 remaining. Savor the moment, and remember this: The Jaguars rallied from a 14-point deficit on a team that doesn't relinquish 14-point deficits. And while Lawrence didn't play perfectly, he played poised and made the plays necessary to win. He's growing and developing in this first season in Head Coach Liam Coen's scheme and Monday was as big a moment as he has had in a while. The Jaguars are in first place in the AFC South and tied for the best record in the AFC. Buckle up. It's a new day.

Ryan from Kansas City, MO

Neighbors probably hate me but had to go to the backyard and give KC a hearty DUUUUUUUVALLLLLLLL! GREAT WIN

Good stuff.

Warren from Bradenton

Stumbleruski!!!

Good one, Warren.

Nick from Annapolis, MD

Why no O-Zone Late Night?

We don't do O-Zone Late Night on prime-time games. O-Zone Late Night typically posts around 10 or 11 p.m. after a 1 p.m. start. That means it would post around 3 or 4 a.m. at the earliest after an 8:15 p.m. start. That would leave only a few hours before the regular O-Zone, so the regular O-Zone – in this case – is enough. Some would say a regular O-Zone is way too much, which is a fair point.

Andy from Alpharetta, GA

Well, then. I think we can put the "same 'ol Jags" thing to bed

One would hope.

Josh from Atlanta, GA

Devin LLOYD. Still an All-Pro.

I received multiple emails along these lines Monday, and why not? Lloyd, a fourth-year linebacker selected by the Jaguars No. 27 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, continued a remarkable 2025 season on Monday when he intercepted Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes at the 1-yard line and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown and a 21-14 lead. The play gave the Jaguars seven points and prevented seven points, swinging momentum and allowing the Jaguars to control momentum for much of the remainder of the game. Lloyd has four interceptions this season and it's to the point that what he did Monday isn't all that surprising. It's an amazing career surge for Lloyd, who had to battle for a starting position in training camp. Good on him. Remarkable stuff.

Jim from Jagsonville

Devon Lloyd, Devon Lloyd, Devon Lloyd! What else do you say except Devon Lloyd? Go Jaguars!

One thing you could say is "it's Devin."

Paul from Washington, D.C.

Where would you rank Lloyd?

Up there.

Ecstatic from Duuuuuuwhatever

I love being a Jags fan. That is all.

We received a few of these shortly after 11 or so Monday. They were in contrast to a lot of emails received at various times in the previous three hours. The NFL is not for the faint of heart.

Cliff from Everywhere with helicopter

Well *that* was fun. That final TD was one of the most innovative offensive play calls I've ever seen. Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen is a genius.

Everyone's a comedian at 4-1.

Clayton from Shawnee, OK

Not sure what to say. Unbelievable. So happy. My only real thought: this team's offense and defense complements themselves really well.

This team fights. It believes in itself. The players believe in each other. This was a team that had trailed for a total of a little more than nine minutes in four games entering Monday. They hadn't trailed by more than four points. On Monday they trailed the three-time defending AFC Champions by 14 points early. The inbox filled with many, many "Same Old Jaguars" emails (and you all know who you are). But this is not the "Same Old Jaguars." The Jaguars not only rallied from a 14-point deficit, they then rallied from a 28-24 deficit and drove 60 yards for a touchdown in the final 1:45. This is a team that plays hard and knows how to win. It has turned itself into that sort of team in a very short time.

Devin Lloyd for President 2028!

Maybe. Just, maybe.

JT from Palm Coast, FL

Devin Lloyd for DPOY!!! Pay him IMMEDIATELY!!!

Just remarkable.

That missed pass interference is sickening. I can always stomach a fair loss. This is sickening, Zone. Parker Washington was straight up leveled. There is no excuse. It's toxic and driving fans away from the game. Despite your attempt at professionalism, I am not wrong.

You're referencing a non-call on pass interference in the third quarter, a play on which Chiefs safety Jaden Hicks indeed knocked Jaguars wide receiver Parker Washington off his route. The result was an easy interception for Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie because Lawrence threw to where Washington would have been if not for the missed interference. It was a pretty inexplicable missed call. Your email suggests it was perhaps a part of some conspiracy, which it wasn't. But it was a missed call.

JK from NY & Fernandina Beach, FL

What a roller coaster ride! A historic win! I love the Jags! How good was that?

Quite.

Jack from Savannah, GA

Please post this as the ballyhooed first. We're about to get DRUG, not the same level at all.

This was the much-ballyhooed, often-weird, sometimes-pertinent First Email of the Game. It is usually reserved for O-Zone Late Night, but we don't do O-Zone Late Night after prime-time games for the aforementioned reasons. I included this email because it was sent with the score tied 0-0 and nothing having happened to give any indication of a difference of level. Fans fan, I suppose. It's what they do.

James from Palm Coast

SWEET SWEET SWEET

James liketh him some Jaguars …

John from Minneapolis, MN

Man. I love watching this team compete. DUUUUUUUUUUUUVAL

… so doeth John.

John from Jax

Hi KOAGF - I've watched that goal line fumble several times and I can't understand how they did not overturn it for TD. A line straight from the tip of the ball to the goal line shows it touching before he fumbled. Curious your thoughts after you get a chance to see it played back.

Your referencing a key play in the first half when Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton knocked the ball from Lawrence as Lawrence stretched the ball over the goal line. It was fourth-and-goal and defensive end George Karlaftis recovered for the Chiefs. I thought it was a touchdown. Others in the press box disagreed. When you have that sort of disagreement, reviews often uphold the call on the field. The ruling on the field was a fumble, so there you go. I guess.

Brandon from Louisville

A throw beyond the line of scrimmage again!? It's inexcusable. At some point we cannot overlook this kind of stuff and move on!

Lawrence indeed did this Monday on the first play of the Jaguars' second series. He does do this sort of thing too often. He must be more aware. It wasn't a tragic mistake, but it turned what could have been second-and-6 or so into second-and-14 and eventually led to a punt. When you're playing the NFL's best teams, it's the little things.

Josh from Atlanta, GA

The national media is spraying praise on national TV about what this win can mean for this team this season and beyond. They're saying what you have for 3 weeks. It's just amazing to hear on MNF. Stay tuned.

Goody for the national media.

Mike from Lakeland

How do you pick up that OPI flag?

This references the officials originally calling offensive pass interference on a pick on a first-quarter touchdown pass from Mahomes to tight end Travis Kelce. Officials eventually ruled no OPI and a touchdown. Your question is fair.

Drew from Buford

I don't know what this says about me, but that win literally made me shed tears.

Real men cry real tears.
