JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

Great win!! Despite the injuries, penalties and missed opportunities, the Jags never quit and kept playing hard. The team made a huge stride in Santa Clara. Feels like a brand new day! Go Jags!
The Jaguars' 26-21 victory over the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., Sunday indeed felt like a "new-day" sort of victory. They won on the road in a venue where they never had won before. They beat a historical franchise that knows how to win and expects to win. They ran well again. They stopped the run well again. They forced turnovers well again. They made key plays at critical moments again. They also moved into a tie for first place in the AFC South with the Indianapolis Colts. They have won three of their first four games and appear to know how to play to their identity. This is a team that knows how it wants to play and what it wants to be. That's the sort of stuff around which long-term success is built. This feels like the start of something good and sustainable.

Good teams find ways to win.
This is a good point, one that's often lost on fans and observers during a close victory – or in the immediate aftermath of such a victory. The NFL is a league of one-score games and critical moments. Blowout victories, while not necessarily rare, are often not the norm and championship teams must be able to win close games in which not all goes well or perfectly. Winning close games is usually not a sign that something is amiss in the NFL. It is in fact usually a sign of a good team. The Jaguars are starting to look like a good team and Sunday's game against the 49ers is precisely the sort of game on which memorable seasons are built.

I'm never one to begrudge a win. A win is a win is a win is a win. I have the feeling that multiple times this team has dragged quarterback Trevor Lawrence to a victory, rather than being quarterback-led. I'm so excited for this team's propensity for creating turnovers on defense and big plays in the running game. However, the passing offense seems out of sync and flat. No big passing plays, lots of offensive penalties and Trevor has looked inaccurate and jumpy to leave the pocket early. The offensive line has mostly pass blocked OK, the receivers caught the ball, yet the offense repeatedly stalled in the second half. The rest of the league wins from the quarterback position. Me thinks we need more from 16 to be serious come December.
Says the guy who never begrudges a victory.

This team has a penalty problem. Every week we continue to get penalized significantly more than the opponent. Every week. Eleven for 93 against the Carolina Panthers, six for 55 against the Cincinnati Bengals, nine for 70 against the Houston Texans and 12 for 90 Sunday. Every single week we've had more penalties and more penalty yards than our opponent. It's extremely frustrating to watch. It's hard enough to win in this league. I don't understand why we are our own worst enemy. This team cannot expect to win games if they're shooting themselves in the foot endlessly.
The Jaguars have committed too many penalties this season. The issue at times has been about pre-snap movement, with players adapting to a new offensive scheme – and a new emphasis on shift and motion to get a read on the defenses – than was previously the case. There also have been numerous other issues. This has been season-long problem and frustration. Few teams go through an NFL season without problems and frustrations. The good teams win while solving and enduring those issues, and the Jaguars are 3-1 this season.

Ten wins suddenly doesn't seem all that unlikely, does it?
No, it does not.

Love to see the fire in Liam Coen after the game with Robert Salah. Not rolling over starts with the coach.
Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen didn't say much Friday when asked about comments made by 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh the previous day about the Jaguars being "great" at legally stealing signals. Coen didn't say much about it after the game, either. We saw in the postgame that Coen perhaps wasn't pleased with Saleh's comments, and you know what? That's fine. This is entertainment and not everyone's going to be pleased with everyone else all the time. A little unpleased-ness is sort of fun.

How did Trevor look? (It's all I care about. Missed watching the game). Thanks!
A little good. A little not so good. More good than not-so-good. (The Jaguars are 3-1 and leading the AFC South).

Looked like Liam was lettin' Saleh hear about it after the game!
Indeed it did.

Congratulations to Liam Coen on surpassing former Head Coach Urban Meyer on the Jags' all time coaching win list.
Tom's got jokes. They're not particularly funny jokes, and they make you feel sort of sad seen through a certain lens, but he's got jokes.

What an enjoyable game to watch. I think this might be a team that peaks at the right time. Clean up some mistakes and they could make some noise.
The Jaguars are indeed fun to watch. They're a scrappy, tough team that never believes it's out of games and thus far has done remarkably well maintaining control of a game once it gains momentum and a lead. They do need to clean up mistakes, but that's what September is about for pretty much every NFL team – cleaning up mistakes and learning identity. The idea is to get out of September in good position for the rest of the season, Mission accomplished on that front for the Jaguars in 2025.

Loving this defense so far this year! Jaguars might have to use the franchise tag on Devin Lloyd, what a game and season he's having!
The Jaguars can't use the franchise tag on linebacker Devin Lloyd. Teams must use the tag on players entering their fourth seasons in the offseason before that fourth season. Lloyd's having a standout season with three interceptions through four games. Good on him.

Hey, O. Listen closely to the announcers. You will hear a lot of bias going on.
I don't listen closely to announcers. I don't find most all that interesting. That's OK. I probably don't interest most announcers all that much, either. My experience is most fans don't like network announcers and consider them biased against their teams. This is often the case for fans of two teams watching the same game.

We've still only trailed for 18 seconds this season. Wild. NOT the same ol Jags.
This is incorrect. The Jaguars trailed 3-0 for 8:52 in the first and second quarters Sunday. They now have trailed for 9:10 this season including the :18 they trailed against the Bengals in Week 2. Either way, this is not remotely the "same old Jags."
Kalani from Duval
I REPEAT: Out of four games so far, we have been behind on the scoreboard for a total of 18 seconds. Do you remember seeing any Jags stats that one sided? DUUUUVAAL
I repeat: This is incorrect.

How big was that Travis Hunter third-down catch?!?!
You're referencing a 28-yard reception by rookie wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter Sunday that turned a third-and-15 play from the Jaguars 6-yard-line into a first down at the Jaguars 34. The play led to a touchdown pass from Lawrence to tight end Hunter Long that gave the Jaguars a 14-3 lead. How big was Hunter's play? Quite.

O, what a glorious day! This win was an excellent win being all three phases doing their part. Defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile … definitely one fer him with what he's done to this defense this year. I'm so proud to say we're tied for first place in our division! We need to keep it rolling and cut the dumb mistakes and penalties in order to win Monday versus the Chiefs. Let's go Duuuuvaaaal!!!
Sunday was a good day for Brian.
Alex from Apex
Jags win and Colts lose! Tied for lead of the division and the defense has been ferocious. Great Sunday!
Many NFL coaches like to break up the season in quarters, with the philosophy being that if you go 3-1 (or 4-1) in all four quarters you'll be in the postseason. The Jaguars are 3-1 through the first quarter and tied for first place in the AFC South. It was a good "first quarter." The second quarter will be tougher. Onward.

Victory Monday. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Indeed.
