JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …
Josh from Atlanta, GA
Where in the hell is the explosive offense we were sold all offseason? It's actually pathetic, our number of explosive plays. Between the drops and inability to find openings, I'm really starting to think we just don't have the right guys. Hunter is the only exciting thing this offense has.
This is certainly a more-than-pertinent topic as the Jaguars move forward from a 35-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at Wembley Stadium Sunday and into their Week 8 bye. I was among those observers who thought the Jaguars' speed at the skill positions – particularly at wide receiver with Brian Thomas Jr., Dyami Brown and Travis Hunter – would be an element that made this a dynamic offense. My thought was that if the Jaguars were good, the big-play element would be a huge reason. Through seven games, the Jaguars' receivers as have had as many head-scratching plays as explosives. The observers so far have been … wr-wr-wr-wr-wrong. Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you.
Chris from Fleming Island
That was some vintage Jaguars. Like Gus Bradley/Urban Meyer era. You keep saying this isn't the same old Jags, but the last two weeks looks like the same old Jags. It's one thing to lose, but that was embarrassing.
Sunday's loss was bad. Really bad. Most good NFL teams – and the Jaguars at 4-3 remain at least close to a good team – have a bad game or two, though I won't argue with those who say that Sunday's was worse than "normal bad game." Time will tell if this team is "same old Jags." I don't think that will be the case. We'll see.
John from Jacksonville
Can we start having Look-Ahead Mondays?
Nah. Gotta own it.
Scott from Atlantic Beach, FL
Most definitely the same old Jaguars. Pathetic. Sad. Par for the course.
The Jaguars' victory over the Kansas City Chiefs seems like a long time ago. It's not. It was, in fact, just 15 days ago. And the Jaguars from this view aren't the same old Jaguars. But the victory over the Chiefs does seem like a long time ago. Such is the week-to-week nature of the NFL.
Ryan from Bremerton
Hey, John. Do you think there should be a switch to Nick Mullens just to give the offense a little spark?
No. #FreeNickMullens
Aaron from Savannah, GA
John, do we have a kicker problem?
This is a better question than it was a week ago, with Jaguars kicker Cam Little for a second consecutive week missing his lone field-goal attempt from 50 yards Sunday. Little has converted four of his last eight field-goal attempts. Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen said Monday there are no plans to replace Little or sign competition. Coen: "He's going to kick his way out of this thing and he's going to make some big kicks for us this year."
Frank from Jacksonville
Do you think Cam Little will still be on the team post bye week?
Yes.
CB from Savannah
How can we expect to win when giving up seven sacks two weeks in a row? What is wrong with the offensive line? I think this performance was shameful!
You indeed can't expect to win allowing seven sacks per game, as the Jaguars have done the last two weeks. What is wrong? They're getting in bad down-and-distance situations and falling behind too far too early. Those are often the circumstances that lead to crises of pass protection.
Mark from Archer
I have the drops issue figured out. The reason the wide receivers are dropping so many passes is because they are shocked that the ball is actually getting to them.
Mark's got jokes.
Valarie from Guyton, GA
With BTJ struggling mightily, are we going to see the offense now run through Travis Hunter following the bye?
I expect Hunter to increasingly be more involved. I don't know that he's ready as a receiver to have the offense "run through him." Remember, too: These things tend to happen organically. If Hunter is ready to be a No. 1 option, coaches will gain trust in that option and quarterback Trevor Lawrence will gain trust in it, too.
Stephen from Melbourne, Fl
Another drop/short arm by BTJ on key down. It's starting to feel like a liability. Is there a solution? Does Gladstone start making calls?
I don't expect the Jaguars to trade wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., though your take on this matter is not an overreaction to his play thus far this season.
Levi from Bedford
Well, unfortunately, this is one of those games the Jags don't recover from. We have seen this too often. Same 'ol Jags. We look completely outmatched and pathetic in all three phases for two games in a row. It is who we are, and probably a miracle we won four games.
Stop.
Josh from Who cares
Penalties, dropped passes, bad throws and can't cover Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams. That sums Sunday up. Let's get ready for the Las Vegas Raiders after the bye and congrats to Hunter on the first touchdown. I wish we showed up to London but apparently we forgot to get off the plane on Tuesday and went to Camden Yards instead. Good luck O, you will have a rough couple of weeks.
Weep not for I, good man. People ask questions. I answer them. A story is sent, posted and then I move on. This is my challenge, and I have chosen to accept it gladly.
Chris from Vienna
I was in the game in London. So disappointing. Fire the O-line. Fire Lawrence. Fire the coaches. Oh so fire all and build a new team.
OK.
Brian from ROUND ROCK, TX
Time for way more Travis Hunter overall. Time for way less BTJ. What has caused the plummeting effectiveness of our coach? His star is dropping almost as fast as BTJ drops.
Plummetting effectiveness? Coen has coached the team seven games. They have won four. has won four. He has lost the last two. This happened in the NFL. The NFL is a week-to-week league. Nine days ago, Coen was a genius. Now, he's under criticism. It's always coaching in the NFL.
Crash from Glen Saint Mary
Obi Wan! The Cats lost because they were in London for a week with no Bono's BBQ or Bold City Brew.
Fair.
Andy from Halifax
Not that it matters but the receivers made Trevor look BAD Sunday.
The Jaguars receivers often haven't gotten open enough and they have dropped too many passes. Why wouldn't that matter?
Dan from Munich
What a disappointing two weeks. Hopefully Gladstone will surprise us with a new quarterback and our first-rounder back. Trevor is not the guy, Year 5, $50 million a year and still looks clueless on the field.
Gladstone is unlikely to trade for a "new" starting quarterback before the trade deadline and he's equally unlikely to trade a veteran player for a first-round draft selection. I expected before Sunday's loss that the Jaguars could trade for a veteran tight end or defensive lineman. I didn't expect them to make a franchise-changing trade at the trade deadline because you rarely change your franchise at the trade deadline.
Brian from ROUND ROCK, TX
That Monday night win over the Chiefs is the most devastating win in franchise history. Have you ever seen a team handle success more unsuccessfully?
I seem to recall a not-so-brief stretch seven or so seasons ago.
Craig from Mulbarton, England
Hey, Zone. Just wondering if instead of intangibly rich if it might be better being tangibly rich. You know, like an offensive line that can protect the quarterback, a quarterback that can throw straight and make touch passes, a wide receiver corps that catch the ball, a defensive line that can get after the opposition quarterback and a set of defensive backs that can defend passes without committing pass-interference penalties. Seems the way forward to me.
We're criticizing "intangibly rich" now, are we? Already? Remember: Gladstone, who uses "intangibly rich" to describe the sorts of player the Jaguars want, was a large part of the Rams while they were building their current roster – the same roster that looked so impressive Sunday. We're seven games into this new regime. The record is 4-3.
Bobo from Coosawatchie, SC
Seems to me the book on Trevor is take away the run, bring pressure and make him beat you consistently having to throw exposing his limited field vision, inaccuracy and holding onto the ball too long. He's not the only problem the last two games, but his weaknesses outweigh his physical talents in my opinion.
OK.
Josh from Jacksonville
Is this the real 2025 Jags now? Completely disjointed, endless penalties, dropped passes, missed blocks, can't cover in the secondary. This team fell into their four wins and have been exposed.
I understand the raw anger and overreaction that comes with losing big in the NFL. The Jaguars did not "fall into" four victories.
