JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

I don't want the Jags to be the team other teams rally on. Houston is 0-2 and Kansas City has not started as expected. Both of those teams are good teams and a big win could be the catapult. On the other hand, these two games could be our catapult. In the Mighty O ' opinion, what are our chances?
The Jaguars don't want to be a team other teams rally on, either. I know of no team that wants this. The Houston Texans, whom the Jaguars play at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville Sunday, and the Kansas City Chiefs indeed both are good teams that are also 0-2 teams. I think Sunday's Jaguars-Texans game will be a physical, close game that's decided on whether the Jaguars can control the game offensively with a strong offensive line/productive running game and timely passes from quarterback Trevor Lawrence – and on whether the Jaguars' defense can create a momentum-changing turnover or two. This is the Jaguars' identity through two games and it will be fascinating to see if they play to that identity in what is the biggest game under this new regime. I don't have any feel for the Jaguars' game against the Kansas City Chiefs. That's in Week 5, which is two weeks away. We're not there yet.

Since TH is playing both ways, when he gets hurt will the team require two players to fill in for him?
Sort of. If rookie wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter is hurt, they will need a cornerback to play more to make up for the snaps Hunter is missing on defense and a wide receiver to play more to make up for the snaps Hunter is missing on offense. Players such as cornerback Jarrian Jones or wide receiver Parker Washington therefore could play increased roles if Hunter is out. If Hunter is placed on injured reserve at some point, the Jaguars could also activate a player from the practice squad or sign a free agent at one of the positions – though they only will be allowed to sign one player to "replace" him.

I think Travis Hunter indeed does have the ability to be one of the best corners in the NFL. If he reaches that level, I fully agree with you that he will play much less on offense. As he should, if he is that good at the position. I love the idea of quite a few gadget plays a game on offense. It will be a lot of fun and open opportunities for the other receivers who might be overlooked while potentially doubling TH. That pass interference call was ELITE coverage IMO. I know it's a miniscule sample size, but from all of camp and his performance in-game thus far, what do you think of where he is at as a corner?
I don't expect to play "much less" on offense if he reaches an elite level at cornerback. At least not anytime soon. He currently is already good at cornerback. Very, very, very good.

We absolutely can win with Trevor playing like he is. It's a seriously potent offense. The issues are the bone-headed, "head-scratching" throws he seems to make every single week. It defies logic to me, how we can guarantee ourselves there will be multiple of them week in and week out. It is not a small sample size, as it has been who he is throughout his NFL career regardless of a new system or not. I'd MUCH rather have him than a heck of a lot more of the quarterbacks in this league, no doubt. We just have to be able to overcome the head-scratchers. My question is do you think he can still outgrow it, or have we seen enough to know we have a Brett Favre-like quarterback who will just throw a lot of picks?
I don't expect Lawrence will always have head-scratching throws. The Jaguars are very, very pleased with Lawrence's approach in his first season in Head Coach Liam Coen's offense. They're very pleased with his progress. He's developing rapidly in terms of approach and grasp in this scheme. That doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be Patrick Mahones every Sunday. It doesn't mean he'll be flawless or close to flawless. It means there's optimism that there's going to be steady, real development and improvement over the course of the season. Stay tuned.

Jaguars beat the Texans and all tempers quiet down. I find serenity when I see where the Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins stand. There are 15 more games to be played - a lot can happen. If we lose against the Texans, then let the rage reign again. Do I qualify for a Football Whisperer?
(Whispers) The NFL is a week-to-week league.

Hey, John. I hope that this Sunday Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair gets to know Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange and running back LeQuint Allen Jr. very well. Do you suspect that will be a point of emphasis?
You're referencing something kind of sort of maybe a bit untoward happening to Al-Shaair Sunday because of his illegal hit he delivered on Lawrence last December 1, a hit that essentially ended Lawrence's season. I don't expect the Jaguars to target Al-Shaair in this way Sunday because their focus will be on winning rather than retaliation. I don't expect the Jaguars to back down or play soft Sunday, but I don't expect them to back down or play soft against anyone under Coen.

It will not be long until wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. becomes a malcontent like Jalen Ramsey. The Jaguars should unload him now for two first-round picks while his stock is high. Obviously, this guy isn't a tough player and is seeing ghosts, which affects his ability to catch the football. Unload him now while you can get something for him.
Fans fan. It's what they do.
Zach from Wisco
Why doesn't Brian Thomas Jr get the same benefit of excuses as Trevor Lawrence? He is, after all, a young second-year player in his second offense. Oh and he's also not being paid Top 5 money for his position. He's had two bad games yes. But the speed at which this fan base has turned on him is unsettling considering he's shown more promise than any other recent draft pick.
I can't speak for the entirety of the Jaguars' fan base. My sense is that much of the criticism toward Thomas stemmed from him not go after the ball strongly enough last Sunday. My sense is the fans criticizing him for this will stop criticizing if that's a one-off rather than a trend.

The pre-snap looks by the Jags' defense this year so far have been exciting to watch. Seeing six or seven dudes all on the line and you don't know who is going to rush, that is probably the best thing about the Jags this year, waaaaay more interesting than in years past!
OK.
Steve from Upper Tract
Still say the best way to watch this team is to wait until the game is over and watch the 12 minute video of the game on YouTube. Done this for three years now and it is much better. I love comic relief but, you can only laugh for so long before it hurts, so 12 minutes is doable … LOL Believe it or not, I really wish that wasn't the case but time has proven it will always be.
This seems like a silly way to watch a team that is clearly improved and moving in the right direction. But to each his own, I suppose.
Dwayne from Jacksonville
Just in case no one else asked, playoffs? You're talking playoffs?
I recently mentioned "playoffs" in the sense that I believe the Jaguars can make the postseason if they continue to run and produce turnovers as well as they have in the first two games. They lead the NFL in rushing and turnovers. My team is on the floor.

Do you have any idea how many times I have nearly filled a text box with an inefficacious vitriol type response, only to review, erase, and try to be nice? Thanks for doin whatcha ya do and proliferating wisdom and understanding!
I am the king of all funk.

Due to my work schedule, I can't watch the Jag games on Sundays. Are the coaches using Travis for zone or man-to-man coverage?
Hunter, like all Jaguars defensive backs, plays both zone and man to man. The Jaguars under defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile mostly play zone coverage.

Hall of Famers aren't immune to talking out of their asses. It sounds like Dwight Freeney was full of it.
